Equipped with built-in WiFi, the Canon VIXIA HF R30 Full HD Camcorder is a budget-friendly camera with professional features. It records in 1920 x 1080 high def and features 8GB of flash memory. In addition to its built-in memory, the HF R30 also boasts a SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card slot that supports up to 64GB cards. With this much storage space it's possible to record for several hours. Whether you record to the internal memory or removable card, the camera's Full HD CMOS Sensor and image processor work together to provide stunningly detailed, life-like images that look great on your HDTV. Of course, these two don't work alone: the HF R30 also employs a genuine Canon HD video lens with 51x Advanced Zoom and SuperRange Optical image stabilization, powered image stabilization and a 3.0" flat touch screen LCD display, among other great features.
Designed with advanced users in mind, the camcorder also comes with headphone and microphone jacks. These connections make it possible to capture high quality audio to go along with your movies. In addition to using an external mic for audio, the HF R30 features an enhanced internal microphone, which gives you the choice of 4 different recording directions, including monaural, stereo, wide, or synced with zoom. This feature also allows for adjustment between low, mid-range, and high frequencies.

I bought this for family use but I am a videographer by trade. I chose it for the features it has.
The image stabilization is awesome. This is one of my main loves on this camera.
I like the mic input option. I don't have a family use for that- but it's good to have it there in case I need it.
It has excellent video quality even in low light. It focuses relatively quick in low light.
I think the wifi thing is a neat idea- but hard to set up and kind of a lot of work for something that I see as not really usefull. (I have to admit it was a selling point for me though) I was able to get it set up, but I can't think of a practical use for it.
The thing that was a huge disappointment though was the battery life. You barely get about a half hour of use out of it. Then it takes about 2.5 hrs to recharge. Compared to point and shoot cameras, cell phones or anything else that uses a battery- the ratio of charge to use is ridiculous.

This product was purchased to record/stream training sessions and school events. Used it in a low light situation to record a musical presentation recently. The zoom was more than I needed (for that situation) and the image was very clear. Recorded audio without an external mic and it was great. The onscreen menu is easy to navigate and very logical. The compact size and accompanying accessories made it easy to transfer movies from the camera to the computer via HTML cable. I also removed the card from the camera and popped it into a card reader. Easy, accurate, impressive. I've not set up the wifi yet, but that's my next task. Overall: love it and will recommend it to others.

it had been about 5 years since I'd bought a camcorder. Holy cow what a huge change in those 5 years. Great Canon optics plus Canon's cutting edge knowhow add up to some of the most memorable videos you could hope to have at this time and for this class of camera. There is lots to do with your videos to dress them up too. Music and decorations are only part of the perks. The picture quality is superb. Image stabilization is remarkably noticeable. It works great in low light. Taking the camcorder out in a busy downtown area at night compare favorably to what you'd see in a movie theater. I don't know how they get 51x zoom in such a small package but it too is remarkable. I love the ability to use an SD card vs. the 8GB flash memory. It's great for those videos that take up a lot of time...such as a ceremony of some type. This was a VERY GOOD buy from a store I've learned to trust for more than 20 years, B&H.

Camera is great. Picture is beautiful and it seems easy to use. We have used it so far for a school project and general recording. The camera itself should be a 5 star. The reason for only 4 is the software that came with the camera did not work. We stil have not been able to make it work. Instead, I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 and am using Windows Live Movie Maker to download videos. We couldn't do anything with the Canon software.
