The Filter Adapter for Canon G1 X by Canon is a 58mm lens filter adapter specifically made to utilize lens filters on the Canon G1 X. The adapter screws directly onto the lens barrel ring and is designed to move with the lens while zooming in and out. This provides filter coverage throughout the zoom range and prevents vignetting at the wide-angle end of the zoom.
It is dedicated for use with the Canon G1 X and will support any kind of 58mm filter.

Comments about Filter Adapter for Canon G1 X:
You'd think that Canon's accessories would be the best, but you're better off buying after market. Their adaptor rings for all of the G-series are made of cast plastic, never fit snuggly onto the camera and easily accidentally unlock. This one is no exception. For such poor quality, you'd expect them to charge less.

Comments about Filter Adapter for Canon G1 X:
I've gone from the 350D to the 5D MKII. But for a recent strictly tourist trip to Paris with my wife I chose to travel light, so I bought the G1X. The G1X is a FANTASTIC camera. But as for any street-outdoors good photographic endeavor, it needs a polarising filter. And this is where Canon drop-to-drop accessories availability policies are unacceptable: to attach a polarising filter to the G1X you need this Out of Stock thing. And it is not available with B&H only, I searched all photo stores in Paris and I couldn't find it.So there's when a $ otherwise remakable machine fails, because it lacks a cheapo plastic accesory. As ever, Canon cannot do it absolutely right.

Comments about Filter Adapter for Canon G1 X:
This accessory is needed to mount 58mm filters and items such as close-up adapters on the G1X. It does its job with those attachments, but I am not sure about its longevity - it appears to be made of plastic. I have tried it also with a Canon 0.7x wideangle attachment, which is considerably heavier than a filter, and it still works, but appears to flex very slightly under the weight.

After scratching the lens on my G9, I was really happy to see this adapter on the G1X. I already had an assortment of 58mm filters making this camera even more versatile.

Comments about Filter Adapter for Canon G1 X:
A filter adapter is necessary for the G1X, since it is marketed as a "pro" camera. This one works, but for $30, it could be made of metal, not cheap flimsy plastic. I can't imagine that it cost Canon more than a couple of dollars to have it made, so why the steep price tag? I guess it's possible Canon would say they made it from plastic to avoid damaging the lens when you put it on, and that's fine. But once again - why the steep price tag?
