Datacolor's Spyder4Elite is a display color calibration tool well-suited for photographers, videographers and video editors who require the highest level of color control in the studio as well as flexibility in post-production.
The Spyder4Elite features a full-spectrum 7-color sensor that can accurately characterize a variety of wide-gamut and normal displays. Calibrate your monitor, laptop computer, projector, or even an iPad or iPhone. The fourth-generation sensor employs double-shielded filters for longer life and optimal performance. Additionally, several useful step-up features are available that afford greater control.

this worked good on my laptop, on my extra monitor it has brought out the RED PUSH in it so have to calibrate that one differently not able to use the auto. now I have new questions when I buy a monitor.

still does a good job but didn't see much difference from the Spyder 3 Pro. Not really necessary to upgrade unless you want to fine tune and know the details of how to do so with gamma and other controls that aren't standard with the Spyder 3.

After an absence of 30 years I have taken photography back up and in fact am investing quite a bit of time and money. After having purchased a brand new DSLR, some lens, tripod, etc., I set forth to some of the more beautiful landscape on the planet. After taking several thousand pictures in places like The Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Arches, (just to name a few) I could not wait to create all sorts of award winning prints. I purchased the best 27" monitor I could afford, one of the more popular digital darkroom software packages, a book on the software and got to work (around $800 total). In short order I produced what I thought were some stunning photographs. I went to the local [@] (don't laugh) as they provide some excellent printing services for a great price. Anyway, I get the pictures and they weren't even close to what I was expecting. They were all too dark, the colors overly saturated and the tints all wrong. My first reaction was that it must be the printers. I did my research, talked to a photographer friend and discovered I was missing arguably one of the most important tools to resolve my problem; the monitor. He was sure it was the monitor and he was right. But the monitor was really OK, it wasn't calibrated. He told me that it didn't matter the quality of the monitor, if it wasn't properly calibrated or "tuned". Without a properly calibrated monitor he noted, "you're just wasting your time". He recommended the Spyder4 Elite. I ordered from B&H on a Wednesday and got it two days later (free shipping no less). The photos I am printing now may not be award winning, but the moment they captured is exactly as I remember it. The Spyder4 Elite is incredibly easy to install, setup and use. After letting my monitor warm up the appropriate amount of time I calibrated away. I use both my laptop monitor and the larger monitor simultaneously, so it was important that both be calibrated and identical (or nearly so) in appearance. No problem for the Spyder4. Thanks to the Spyder4 Elite and B&H (for providing the best pricing and service on the internet) I have now plastered all the walls of my house with photographs that I can truly be proud of.Thanks again!Bill

Installed the software and in 30 minutes I had my New HP ZR24W 24" monitor and my laptop monitor calibrated using the wizard. Both calibrated to 97% sRGB and I was ready to start editing photos on the new monitor. I wished they made everything that easy to use. The thing I like most, it lowered the brightness of both monitors to a better level for viewing.

The software install was straight forward and simple. I calibrated my laptop and my dual monitor setup. Both were just as easy to do. The adjustments that the device to both systems were perfound. Before I calibrated my dual monitors they appeared as though one was warm and the other was cool, and yes I know how to change the color settings. After going through the steps for each monitor they now match perfectly. This is well worth the cost. The only con i would have would be that if your monitors are tilted forward to reduce glare from overhead light the device will not attach to the monitor unless its a CRT. (the include suction cups for CRT monitors, and only a counter weight on the cord)
