Comments about Azden WHD-Pro Portable VHF Wireless System with SMX-10 Microphone:
Even though the Azden WHD-Pro VHF wireless kit seems designed primarily for audio applications with DSLRs and compact camcorders, I decided to give it a try for video field work with my Canon XL series SDV and HDV camcorders. The transmitter/receiver units have functioned very well at line-of-sight distances of up to around 120 feet, and the selectable frequency switch has been effective for improving reception in a number of situations.
The lavalier mic has performed admirably thus far, delivering generally crisp and uncomplicated sonic quality. The SMX-10 short stereo shotgun mic does a fair job at rejecting some off-axis and rear input but don't expect it to act like a super-cardioid. It's a bit noisy, even when the low frequency cut-off filter is enabled. My Audio-Technica stereo directional mic is a significantly better performer, but it's heavier and requires XLR cabling. The SMX-10 has come in handy when the portability of the wireless kit proved more practical than dealing with the bulk of a field mixer and field recorder. Overall sonic quality delivered by this wireless kit is a little thin and on the tinny side, but easily addressed with judiciously applied audio filtering in post.
Overall, I've found the Azden WHD-Pro VHF wireless kit to be a good value for the price and a very useful complete solution for field work where light and portable are important working factors.

Comments about Azden WHD-Pro Portable VHF Wireless System with SMX-10 Microphone:
The fact that it intergrated with the use of a universal video camera shoe even though I have a GL1 Cannon camera. Product for the price worked as a great wireless solution but the sho-gun type mic also was available when wireless was not a recommended solution. Good product for the $$$ spent.
