Passion for photography and unrelentingly high-standards are what drives the Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Digital Camera. Proudly made in Japan, every part of the X-Pro 1 - from the sensor to the knurled finish of the mode dials - was painstakingly produced with an extreme attention to detail. Harkening back to a time when cameras had the kind of weight to them that gave a photographer confidence, Fujifilm has designed the X-Pro 1 with a die-cast aluminum top and base, a leather like finish on the main body for grip and the look and feel of authentic leather, a natural fitting eyepiece, and other elegant touches like precise engraving on the top-plate. This level of attention to design and a photographer's comfort when shooting makes it almost hard to believe the X-Pro 1 is a modern digital camera.
That being said, the X-Pro 1 is very much a digital camera, combining time-tested physical attributes - refined during the film era - and 21st century digital technology. Mirrorless, the camera's X Mount has a short flange back of just 17.7mm, meaning that rear lens elements are as close to the sensor as possible. This reduces the back focus distance of each lens and results in high resolution being achieved all the way to the edge of the image. The sensor is Fujiflm's 16.3Mp APS-C 23.6 x 15.6mm X-Trans CMOS sensor. The X-Trans utilizes a color filter array to attack moiré and false colors, resulting in an exceptionally true-to-life image that sensor's with optical low-pass filters cannot approach. The EXR Processor Pro supports the X-Trans sensor in its mission and works with an integrated co-processor for high speed and precision.
The aforementioned X Mount attaches FUJINON XF lenses to the X-Pro 1 body. Each lens was designed precisely for the X-Pro 1 and promises enhanced resolution and light volume in edge areas, as well as reduced chromatic aberration. The XF lenses are all polished with Super EBC coating and feature an all-glass aspherical lens, among other elements. At the time of release the separately available lenses include the XF18mm F2 R, the XF35mm F1.4 R, and the XF60mm F3.4 R Macro.
The X-Pro 1 also features the Hybrid Multi Viewfinder which allows you to switch between optical and electronic viewfinders. When an XF series lens is mounted to the camera the viewfinder magnification and frame size are automatically adjusted for immediate shooting. The optical viewfinder provides the brightest viewing image and keeps shutter lag to a minimum, while the electronic viewfinder provides focus confirmation, exposure information, white balance information, and depth of field indicators, as well as a "Live View" of your composition.
In addition to the Hybrid Multi Viewfinder, the X-Pro 1 has a 3.0" LCD screen with 100% coverage and 1,230,000 dots. Files can be stored to SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards, and still images can be recorded in JPEG and RAW formats. Of course, the X-Pro 1 can also capture H.264 HD video with stereo sound at 1920 x 1080 resolution. External TTL flashes can be attached to the camera using the hot shoe. Additional features include a self-timer, an ISO range of 200-6500 (extended range of 100-25,600), and spot, average, multi-zone, and TTL 256-zone metering options, among other useful functions.
Conventional array The optical low-pass filter prevents the occurrence of moire and false colors but results in a loss of resolution
New filter array A higher degree of randomness with an array of 6 x 6 pixel units. Without using an optical low-pass filter, moire and false colors are eliminated while realizing high resolution. Inspired by the natural random arrangement of the fine grains of silver halide in film
XF18mm F2 R (available separately)
XF35mm F1.4 R (available separately)
XF60mm F2.4 R Macro (available separately)
Magnifying system Viewfinder magnification automatically changes when an XF series lens is mounted, and because there is very little noticeable difference in the angle of view when switching between OVF and EVF, viewing in either mode is smooth and natural

I have been using the X-Pro now for about 3 weeks and I absolutely love it. The internet is a black hole when it comes to commenting and it seems that what people really want is a camera that will just take the picture for them. Yes this camera has quirks, but it is a professional tool and this camera reminded me of how lazy Nikon has made. This is no knock against Nikon, but the X-Pro feels like a precision tool in comparison to the chunky DSLRs out there.
The image quality is superb. That is all you need to know. It takes a little getting to use with low light, but there is a great work around that carried over from the X100 using the AF lock to quickly lock onto your subject opposed to using the shutter. In summary, an amazing camera.

Comments about Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Digital Camera (Body Only):
It was love at first touch, although there's definitely a learning curve. I've been an SLR person since my Instamatic days. Images are crispy sharp, exposure is excellent, and when the focus is on it is one. The perfect walk around camera. The only thing I don't like is that it is very easy to change the exposure compensation wheel when shooting. It does take a while to start up.

Comments about Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Digital Camera (Body Only):
I am a professional wedding and portrait photographer. I purchased this camera to compliment my Canon gear as a small, quiet camera that has great image quality. A lot has been said about this camera online, some good and some bad, some true and some false. Here is my take.
THE PRO'S:
Image Quality:
I have owned many professional cameras in my career with the latest being the Canon 5D Mark II. When it comes to image quality this camera simply does not disappoint. It smokes the 5D Mark II in this category. ISO 3200 looks like the 5Dmkii at ISO 1200. ISO 6400 looks amazing as well, much like the 5D Mark II at around 2000. Even 12,800 ISO delivers a great image. Also, when it comes to noise, it is very different than most cameras. The noise is more like film grain, fine black specks with almost ZERO color noise - perfect!
Color rendition is almost spot on, I absolutely trust this camera to deliver an amazing color photo in almost all situations.
Lastly, this camera produces probably the best JPEG images compared to any other camera on the market today
Functionality:
This camera is as close to complete silence as a camera can get. It's shutter is nearly undetecable even in a quiet room, great for wedding candids. Not to mention, I LOVE the sound of the shutter, reminds me of a film camera. (Note - make sure to turn on silent mode and turn off Power save mode even if you have to buy 5 extra batteries, btw I have found some third party batteries to work better for this camera.)
The hybrid viewfinder is wonderful, I love it's versatility. I do wish that the EVF was a bit better though.
Autofocus Accuracy:
For all of those worrying about this cameras AF speed, you are forgetting one important thing! AF speed isn't everything in a good AF system. This camera may be slow to focus, but it does not hunt at all in my experience so far like others have said it does, it is just slow to get in focus in low lit situations. BUT, once it does lock on (and it does eventually lock on in every situation) it is DEAD ON ACCURATE even from 200 feet away. No more thinking to yourself "I better check to see if that picture hit perfect focus" after you absolutely chose one AF point and absolutely focused in the right spot using perfect techinque. I literally do not even have to look down at the screen, I KNOW it is in focus EVERY TIME.
Lenses:
All the lenses are sharp wide open and consistent with zero distortion. The 35mm f/1.4 is especially good, on par with most Canon L lenses. Great job fuji!
Film Simulation:
I love that you can bracket film's in this camera. You can basically take one normal color shot in standard, one BW and one other film type all with one click on the shutter - NICE!
THE CONS:
AF Selection:
FUJI ARE YOU LISTENING! I realllllllly hope they fix this in a firmware update. It is my number one pet-peve with this camera. The AF selection button is on the bottom left hand corner of the back of the camera. EW FUJI! You mean I have to stick my thumb up my nose when I'm looking through the viewfinder to select my AF point. And when I take a vertical shot, I have to squeeze my hand in between my face and the camera to get to it. This is fixable however! The "Fn" button is right beside the shutter, and it would be awesome if they made it possible to select the AF point with that button. Please fix this Fuji!
Battery Life:
Is horrible! Buy 3-5 extra batteries depending on what type of photography you are doing.
Slow AF:
Yes it is slow, like every other reviewer has said. But in my experience it does not hunt as much as other cameras like the the 5D Mark II. It does eventually lock on, even in bad lighting. And when it does, you got the shot!
EVF Lag:
I wish the EVF was perfect, but really there is no perfect EVF yet. I just hope this technology evolves eventually to completely replace the optical viewfinders.
Size:
Some people may love the compact size, I kinda wish it was a little bigger. I have big hands and I kinda have to squeeze it to get a good grasp. It would be cool if they came out with a bigger grip for the bottom that maybe held two batteries, even if it didn't have a vertical shutter.
Flashes available:
I wish they made a flash available that was in between the size of the EF20 and 42 that had swivel head capabilities
SD Card Location:
Why put it by the battery? Why?
Write Speed:
Make sure to buy a Sandisk SD card with the new 95/mb per second read/write speed. It makes using this camera a lot better than slow cards. Trust me.
That's about it! I hope this review gives you an idea of how this camera works!

Being a Nikon fan I have accumulated many accessories to the point the weight is unmanageable for travel. Always wanted a Leica rangefinder for the size and quality but couldn't afford the sticker-shock. The XPro-1 has filled a much needed niche. Great image quality and versatility with regard to everything except slower autofocus then used to with current SLR technology. This is overlooked for portability. Very pleased with the build quality and weight. The images are spectacular and very much in line with expectations especially for the traditional film variations of Fujifilm.

When I bought this camera, I was looking for something that was small, quick, and a quality camera. This mirrorless certainly delivered! I use it mainly for general close up image taking, although I've only used the 35mm lens with it. It handles easily enough, and it is quite simple to change between auto-anything and manual. I still am a little unsure about how the manual setting still has an electronic component to it, but I haven't seen any differences in capability.
I'm probably going to get the 60mm lens later, and am eagerly awaiting their release of the lens adapter equipment to put some Leica lenses on this thing. That combo would transform this little pup into a true beast.

Comments about Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Digital Camera (Body Only):
I do basic street, a little landscape, and candids - up until last fall I used a 5D MkII with 3 Zeiss primes...too big and heavy. I have film rangefinders as well. Tried an X100, and really loved it, and Fuji has been great at making useful incremental improvements to the camera, so I was willing to give this a chance as I still want a system camera. I have a NEX, too, but while the images and size are good, I hate the menu system - it's atrocious.
On the Fuji, so far so good - purchased and immediately installed firmware updates so I have not experienced any issues with chattering.
The images are outstanding. I am not going to whine about no LR support - since when has Adobe not gotten to a camera fairly quickly? - and the JPEGS are excellent.
The AF is really no worse than a 5D Mark II, and more accurate. It's not the big deal everyone is making it out to be (except macro mode). MF is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be either, so my strong opinion is that all of the whiners out there have not actually worked with the camera...spend a little time, and it's passable. Also, Fuji has a good track record of improving firmware, as already proved.
Build quality is just outstanding. Fit and finish is immaculate. It feels and looks like an old camera, in a good way - built to last.
Menu system (Q) just brilliant, quick and easy. Viewfinder is cool - agree the refresh rate could be better, but it's okay. I am not interested in video at all, so no opinion.
The camera is not for everyone, especially beginners, but it does make you want to pick it up and fiddle around...
For me, it's great. The new Canon and Nikons have early adopter firmware and manufacturing issues too, so don't fall for the Internet rumor mill that Fuji is any worse than anyone else...it's a new system, it will take time.

I recently sold all my Leica gear including an M9 and a dozen lenses - as a hobbyist it was hard to justify the cost of all that equipment and I never fell in love with the M9.The Fuji XPro1 I fell in love with right away! The viewfinder is worth the money alone, but the images are fantastic, the look is wonderful, the size and cost are more in line with what I do as a photographer. If you're looking to simplify your photographic life and still produce fantastic images, this is the camera you've been waiting for!I got it with the 35/1.4 lens. It's as good as the Leica 35 summilux or 50 summilux and it costs 1/8th as much. It's a fantastic lens and I would suggest starting with this lens no matter what. You can do wide angle/landscape shots with the XPro1's automated photostitching.I read a lot of complaints about the slow AF, but honestly, I haven't found it to be a problem. I also didn't think the menus were as confusing as everyone says. If you've set up a few digital cameras you won't have any problems. There are a few new/unique features that you will have to read about in the manual, but the manual is well organized and easy to understand. There are certainly some things that could be improved, there always are - but I feel like this is the best money (value/price) I've spent on photo gear in a long long time. It's a wonderful camera designed for serious shooters. I can afford the Leica gear if I wanted it, but this camera does everything I want a camera to do. I can't wait for the 23/1.2 lens!!!

Take the load off! If you've been lugging around an "enthusiast" level DSLR and lenses you know how much of a burden these can be. The Fujifilm X-Pro 1 is physically a lightweight among its peers and still a heavyweight, intuitive imaging tool. I do not use the camera with the Fuji XF lenses yet. I'm waiting for the 23mm wide/normal lens to be released in 2013. In the mean time, I'm using adapted Leica, manual focus glass and the results have been phenomenal.
The control layout is very simple to learn and I use the new Quick Menu constantly. For manual focus, third party lenses I set the camera to Auto ISO 3200 as the low light performance is phenomenal, set the shutter speed dial to an appropriate speed for eliminating blur from hand holding and set the aperture on the lens for appropriate depth of field. ISO adjusts for the difference and I get the quality of shot I want every time. I can watch the exposure indicator to make sure everything works in the lighting I am in and adjust if necessary.
What is not optimal is the lack of frame lines in the optical view-finder at focal lengths entered by the user (a firmware issue?). This would help me save power when using the "zone-focusing" technique. The EVF is moderately "slow" so, when zooming in for critical focus, the image bounces and blurs making it somewhat harder to find perfect focus. Of course this doesn't matter with a tripod -it's clear as a bell! Fianlly, the battery life is lower than I had hoped with the settings I use and I suggest getting one or two as backups.
In all, I must say the experience of using the camera and seeing the stunning images it takes is absolutely worth the minor bugs that exist -many of which can be fixed with firmware upgrades. The X-Pro 1 is worth every penny I paid for it.

I bought the x-pro1 as a pleasure camera to have with me when I'm not on a shoot. The idea was to always have a great camera close by as well as shooting "b-roll" shots. I've ended up using this camera on photoshoots and have enjoyed almost every minute that I've owned it.
It is a professionals camera. This is NOT for the auto-everything point and shoot owner. It is a tool and there IS a learning curve to using it, but the results are well worth the effort.
I bought the 18mm and 35mm lenses are both are fantastic, but the 35mm lens is truly amazing. I only use the OVF in manual focus mode, using the AF-L/AE-L button for autofocus.
I can't wait for LR4 to be able to edit RAW, but have been shooting RAW and editing is SILKYPIX, which is a slow program, but does a very good job handling the beautiful files.
The camera is slow writing RAW files, but I'm sure Fuji will improve that, and there is a little shutter lag, but not real bad, and again, I'm sure Fuji will fix that with a firmware upgrade.
The camera LOOKS amazing and feels great. I added the grip, and that has helped a lot with holding the camera one-handed.

As a former film photographer who loved rangefinders, I immediately bought this camera when it became available. I was not disappointed. Excellent image quality, high ISO quality, build and features. If you are a SLR user this camera takes some getting used to.
The only disappointment is the accompanying software which is poor. I use Mac 10.7.3 and cannot convert the RAW files to DNG. For the time being I settle for TIFF conversion until Fujifilm upgrades its software or Lightroom releases an update that supports the X Pro1.

I have been a professional photographer for 20 years. Although I shoot in the studio, I use a camera for vacation photos. I had a 5D markII for a while, but its too heavy and large to take where I want. I sold it and bought the fuji x-pro1. What an easy camera to use. Everything works seamlessly. Auto focus is great, although I tend to use manual. Only someone who can barely pick up a camera would think that the focus is slow.
I highly recommend this camera. The 35mm is the best lens.

I am running this camera totaly manual except for the focus. The controls are a dream. I feel that the auto focus is very good. I only use the manual focus when I am macro shooting. I felt that if this camera did not work out that the next stop was going to be a Leica M9. I had used a friend's Leica M9 and hoped that X-Pro would be at least close. I am very happy with the X-Pro and Leica should be worried. I am getting great great pictures, tack sharp.

Comments about Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Digital Camera (Body Only):
I recently dumped my Nikon Pro SLR gear in search of a new camera (system). After much reading/research into the micro 4/3 systems I decided to try the new Fuji X-Pro 1. While the 4/3 cameras provide some nice features/advantages, in the end I chose the X-Pro 1 due to the larger sensor and retro/manual configuration. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It took a few days to get into the new functions and unique quirks, but the image quality is breathtaking (I purchased the 35mm 1.4 with the body). The color rendition is second to none and can be manipulated to suit your preference. The usability is old school (what I was looking for) as I shoot completely manual with autofocus (i.e., I choose my shutter speeds, apertures and compensations all manually). The camera is a joy to use. Does it take some time to get used to? Absolutely...particulary after having used Nikon gear for the past 8 years. The X-Pro 1 menues are quick and easy (and very intuitive relative the Nikon's nightmare). The controls are easy and well placed on the body. This camera marries the old with the new very well. Is the camera perfect? Well no of course not, but what camera is? I've read the complaints about the clicking aperture sound (doesn't bother me), the slow autofocus (It only hunts in extremely low light, but so do all AF cameras!). The manual focus is by wire and may be a bit cumbersome, but I almost strictly use AF due to my eyesight and it is razor sharp! If you can't get the AF to hit dead on then you're doing something wrong. If you must use manual focus for your photography then buy a Leica! Or save yourself about $7,000-$10,000 and buy this gem! If you have to have all the latest bells and whistles then buy the Sony or Olympus OM-D. But if you are concerned about nothing but image quality....just buy this camera (and lens). Oh yeah, did I mention the images are incredible?!! Do yourself a favor and buy the grip with the camera. You'll be glad you did. Makes it ergonomically perfect. Skip the leather case as it does not accomodate the grip. Waiting for the portrait 60mm lens to hit the store. I will purchase it along with the 18mm. Can't wait to see what Fuji has up their sleeve for future lens releases. I read somewhere that the best camera to own is the one that you use! My Nikon was collecting dust in the closet and I can't put this X-Pro 1 down! Is this camera for everyone? No, of course not. I don't shoot really fast subjects (racing cars or sports) and I suspect this camera would struggle with those subjects. I shoot people and landscape/cityscapes. For street photography you just have to re-learn the old school method of the great photographers from the past. If those giants could do it with an M3 or Nikon SP, then you can do it with this camera! Just think outside the electronic digital wiz machines and go learn how to take great pictures!

Comments about Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Digital Camera (Body Only):
Hello,
First of all you need to know that I've been taking pictures for over 40 years. Next, although I'm not a professional photographer, I've owned probably over 10 great cameras in my life. I've pre-ordered the X PRO1 because it is a range finder. I love range finders - makes me feel like I'm 20 years old again......
I received the body only from B&H without a lens because they were closed for the holidays (Passover) and shipping was suspended and one lens was back-ordered. So I bought the wide angle lens locally to make myself familiar with the camera because I thought I would keep this camera for a long time anyway.
The pros are that the menu is great and easy to get into. I also own a Fuji S3 UV/IR (from B&H) and that menu was hard for me to learn. I like this body and the location of all the feature mechanical parts.
Here is my overall X-PRO1 experience: I honestly think that this is a true joke of a camera and maybe mine was broken from the beginning. The reasons for saying this are the following:
1)The auto focus in unacceptable big time. Fuji said that if you want a fast camera this is not the one for you. Give me break. Are people walking down the sideway considered fast moving objects? I could not take a picture in focus of someone walking if I wanted to even with the autofocus disabled and switching to different manual shutter speed and exposure.
2) Still regarding the autofocus, the center of landscape pics are sometimes OK to get in focus, but the egdes of the pictures looked weird and out of focus. I've tried to manually close the diaphragm down to get better depth of field, but that really didn't help. As a matter of fact nothing I re-adjusted helped. I've attached a landscape picture for you to see how the focus which was on the owl is not really sharp.
3) I loved my 35 mm pictures using Fuji film as I used to take them with my older cameras. Their color was simply great and after 30 years they are still semi-decent paper pictures today. With this camera the colors looked washed out even on a good i-Mac computer screen.
4) Detail is onother quarry I have had with this camera as the details of my dog's hair and black nose and eyes are just unexcusably blurry regardless of ISO speed, aperture or shutter speed. The pictures are just about as good as compared to the ones I can take with my iPhone camera. No difference at all.
5) My wife is also one who grew up with cameras and I had her handle the camera herself. Her comment was that 9 out of 10 pictures have to be put into the trash folder because they were out of focus and "it should not be this hard to take a decent picture even for a newcomer to this camera".
I agree with her on these parts as I remmeber how many picture I deleted from the X PRO1 as compared to the ones I considered keeping. The ones I kept are still not great as they are just average pictures. I don't want that. Yes, I've seen probably all the graet online pics this camera is supposed to produce, but I would not know how they took these pics myself.
6) Here is my benefit of doubt: Maybe this camera was defective? In an attempt to (yes, I really wanted to) make this camera work for me, I decided to take different fixed aperture indoor pictures with automatic shutter timing. Here things were getting even weirder: With a decrease of shutter aperture (read increased depth of field) one would expect that greater details should be visible from one edge to the other edge and to the center of the picture. The problem here in the series of pictures I took it was exactly the REVERSE! This I cannot explain, other than that the camera's electronics were defective, but I do not know that for sure.
In closing, I want to say that that I've online-reviewed probably 90+% of all the reviews out there on this camera for weeks before I purchased this beast. Most reviews say that the auto focus should be fixed with a firmware upgrade. I'm sorry, but I don't see the manual aperture problem as excusable either!
I've shipped the camera back to B&H for a refund because I only find this camera in the state that I received it to be a joke.
In 40+ years of using cameras, this is the first one I have returned, ever! Sorry about that. As soon as a Nikon D5200 comes out B&H will have my business again.

Comments about Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Digital Camera (Body Only):
This camera is like a high maintenance girl friend, when everything is in sync it is fabulous, the rest of the time...er..frustrating. There is a sharp learning curve but the results are worth it. Love the size and stealth for street photography. It does not yell "professional photographer". People don't even notice it, think you are just another tourist with a P&S.
