The Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro builds on the success of the Rode VideoMic Pro & Stereo VideoMic with improved stereo reproduction, sound quality and ergonomic design. The Stereo VideoMic's capsule feature a matched pair of 1/2" cardioid condenser capsules, mounted in a coincident X/Y position for accurate stereo imagery and detail. The microphone's small, ergonomic footprint features an integrated shock mounting system for superior isolation from vibration and mechanical noise. The multi-strand output cable is terminated with a 1/8" (3.5mm) output connector and delivers significantly lower noise transference than traditional audio cable.
The included shoe mount features an integrated shockmount system for even further protection against handling noise. The Stereo VideoMic features a high pass filter switch at 75Hz for minimizing low frequency noise, and a -10dB Pad for maximizing headroom for capturing loud signals without distortion. The +20dB level boost switch is specifically designed to provide a higher quality signal with DSLR cameras. When activated, camera preamp level is reduced, resulting in a lower noise floor and much clearer recording.

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:
I use this mic on my XA10 to shoot outside in nature. Works great to pick up the ambient sounds of nature in stereo. The optional dead kitten keeps the normal wind noise to a minimum. Stays out of the shot when using the Canon Wide Angle Lens on the XA10. Very happy with the product.

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:
I am a still photographer, and do not do video normally, so this is from the perspective of a novice. The D800, without an external mic, picked up far too much noise from lens focus motors, and the sound quality in general was fair.I bought this unit largely due to form factor, and some hope that the stereo aspect would be useful. I am delighted with performance. While not a substitute for a mic placed nearer the speaker, it picks up voice very well in events such as a wedding or room full of speakers. Some minor experimentation at live music also showed good results. The unit is well built, nicely suspended, and has a small, less obnoxious profile when mounted than many of the similar units. This also means it fits into a camera bag in a small lens slot easily (including dead kitten).

I own a Rode NT-2000 audio microphone and couldn't be happier with it. The same is true for the Rode Stereo Videomic Pro. Rode is quality no matter how you look at it.
I bought this mic to record myself playing guitar through an acoustic amplifier. Recording through only the amp, the mic produces a beautiful ambient sound that pics up the amp and how it reacts to the room. Exactly what I wanted....

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:
I use this microphone with Canon 5D Mark II. You can't even compare quality with built-in one. It's like day and night. This unit gives clear high quality stereo sound. I've tested it with all settings available and it seems that the best result is using default options. It has two switches. Those are fragile. Mine came with broken power switch. I still was able to test it and then exchanged it with B&H. I guess you need to be carefull with those plastic switches. Otherwise, this is a great mic, a little bit pricy but to get such kind of quality in sound you have to pay.

Size is perfect for my D5100. Gave it 4 stars due to cost, but I guess you get what you pay for. Far superior to built in mic in camera.

I shoot with a 5D Mark II, the audio that the camera has natural is okay, but does not sound professional by any means, as soon as I uploaded the video clips after recording with the The studio videomic pro I was blown away with how great everything sounded. Love it

Rode Stereo Videomic Review
I bought this a week ago when I learned that it's in stock. This will be my first rode videomic for my Canon 60D so I won't be able to compare the sound quality from the rest, but I would say that I am very impressed and I really like the sound coming out from this mic. It has a +20db boost specially designed for your HDSLRs. I'm giving it 4 stars due to the following design flaws. First, the look is odd, kind of a funky looking mic. This makes my 60D a little bit bigger.
Second, the battery compartment, the cover is very hard to open. You need to press it hard to do so. They should've made it like a flip out plastic cover with hinge instead so accidentaly losing it won't happen.
Third, the cable is a little bit flimsy.
Fourth, the cold shoe is a little bit longer, it can't fit the Vello cold shoe extender when putting it sideways, in other words, you can't put this mic along side your LED light, but overall I'm happy with it.
Don't forget to register so you'll get the 10 year warranty, for that alone this makes it totally worth it. I recommend this to anyone looking for their first shotgun mic for their HDSLRs.

This is a very light weight mic the shockmount works great for run-n-gun shooters. The only thing neagtive to say about it is that I feel it's a little over priced.

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:
It is very sensitive mic. Using it on a D7000 into the mic port. It will pick up the autofocus, but many hotshot mounted mics will pretty much do that too. The high pass feature, didn't like that too much. Just using it in the regular mode worked out great. It was able to pick up sounds VERY far away! I will be using it in the manual focus mode, tripod mounted mostly. I think a 'dead kitten' is a must outside and would recommend you get one if you're shooting outside. The only cons, I wish it would have had a case given it's sort of delicate in that it sits in a rubber band sling onto of the camera. Also, there is a mount on the bottom, which I attempted to mount on a tripod for off-camera recording, but the threads are too large (I tried two different tripods). Anyway, it's a solid performer that will make many people happy.
