The VideoMic HD Digital Recorder Video Microphone from Rode is the first-ever video microphone that's also a digital recorder! This means that you can use the VideoMic HD on top of a camcorder or digital SLR camera like a traditional video microphone, or you can use it on its own to make crisp, clear recordings. Recordings can be made as MP3 or WAV files at rates up to 24-bit/96kHz and are stored on widely-available microSD flash memory cards. The mic has an ultra-lightweight metal casing and a quick release mounting system that fits a standard camera shoe.
The VideoMic HD is an RF-bias true condenser shotgun microphone based on the popular NTG3 shotgun mic. It has a supercardioid pickup pattern for excellent off-axis attenuation and reduced feedback. An integrated blimp and shock mount provide protection against wind and handling noise so your recordings sound as clean as possible. There is a 3-level high pass filter that can be set at 0, 75, or 150Hz to reduce low-end rumble and hum. A high frequency boost switch provides increased intelligibility when miking at a distance.
The mic has a 3.5mm mono mini plug, which can output signals in various ways. It offers dual mono, dual mono + 20dB, and a split 0dB and -10dB mode to automatically create a safety channel. The VideoMic HD also has a mic/line 3.5mm mono input jack for connecting additional input devices. The input offers 3V "plug-in" power as well. A high-level headphone amplifier with a 3.5mm stereo jack is built into the VideoMic HD so you can monitor and review your recordings. An easy-to-read LCD display shows track and recording information. The VideoMic HD is manufactured in Australia and carries a massive 10-year warranty.
