The Sony 32GB XQD Memory Card is a card supporting the XQD specification for high-speed, high-performance digital image capture. This specification has been approved and licensed as an open format by the CompactFlash Association. Now, XQD compatible high-end DSLR camera users have the ability to capture as many as 100 frames (approx.) in RAW format in continuous shooting mode with the Nikon D4. These highly reliable cards also serve to protect your data. Enjoy blazing-fast read / write speeds of up to 125 MB/s (approx. 1.0 Gb/s)! These transfer rates are achieved via the PCIe interface, a computer expansion card standard for serial interfaces. The card boasts a data storage capacity of 32 GB.
The XQD card features a unique controller and optimized flash memory allowing for high-speed data processing, yielding speed and performance that is impossible for traditional CompactFlash cards to match. Use this card with the USB 2.0 / 3.0 compatible XQD card reader (model MRW-E80) and the XQD ExpressCard Adapter (QDA-EX1) (both sold separately). These devices enable you to quickly and easily transfer large amounts of data, such as RAW photos, to your computer for an efficient workflow.

I always shoot RAW and JPG and sports photography can sometimes fill the camera's buffer, especially with slow memory cards. I shot a tennis tournament recently where there were simultaneous matches on six courts. I was shooting two doubles and four singles matches non-stop and at no time did I have to wait for the camera to write files. Eventually, I had to change cards and I was startled at how hot the XQD card was from writing so many files in such a short period of time. I sincerely hope the XQD format catches on and more manifacturers will make cards and card readers. I'd love a firewire reader that would read both XQD and CF formats! Gave 4 out of 5 stars because only available from Sony so far, lack of competition.

Comments about Sony 32GB XQD Memory Card:
I ordered one of these cards for my new Nikon D4, as I wanted more capacity than the 16 gig one that came with the camera (I was only of the lucky early ones) no one in Canada had them in stock at the time, and I needed one quickly. B & H came through in all ways, delivering faster than they'd estimated. The card works fine - no complaints at all.

Comments about Sony 32GB XQD Memory Card:
As a sports photographer speed is paramount....I can't stand waiting for a card. The XQD cards are just plain fast....nice size, no pins.
It's a shame the products are so limited that utilize the XQD...hope it catches on.
Just me, my Nikon D4 & a Sony XQD....way too much fun!

Comments about Sony 32GB XQD Memory Card:
I was skeptical too. When I ordered the D4 I wished it just had two CF slots, as I already had a pile of CF cards and they worked just fine, and who wants to adopt a new standard? Well, now I wish the D4 had two XQD slots. In the end all I really care about is performance and the XQD (and lets remember that these are the slowest XQD cards that will ever be made) simply crush any CF card I have (except the Lexar 1000X cards but those cost more than the XQDs). I've purchased several 32gb XQD cards now and sincerely hope they become the new standard.

Comments about Sony 32GB XQD Memory Card:
The XQD card is fast. On my Nikon D4 I have tried to overrun the buffer and even at 10fps I haven't done it yet for my Aviation Photography.
Pricewise this card is on par with the Lexar 1000x CF of the same size, but the Lexar can be used in my other cameras, the XQD only in the D4.
I would like to see Sony come out with 64GB or 128GB versions of the XQD, because I quickly fill up the 32GB size

Comments about Sony 32GB XQD Memory Card:
Yes it's a new format and only the D4 uses it but all I care about is speed and this is the fastest card I've ever used. Faster at reading and writing than the Extreme Pro that I bought for the other slot.
I hope the other companies start to adopt this format soon and would love an option to update the camera to use dual XQD cards rather than XQD and CF.
