The Hahnel MK100 Uni-Directional Microphone is designed for use with modern DSLR's, camcorders and audio recorders. It features a 0.55" (14 mm) electret condenser capsule with a Super Cardioid design that's capable of high-quality, uni-directional audio pick-up. This mic pick-up pattern is designed for optimum sound input from in front of the microphone and minimal interference from the left side, right side and behind.
Besides an optimum mic pick-up pattern, the MK100 also features a rubber Shockmount suspension system, which absorbs any unwanted mechanical vibrations from the camera it's mounted on. The microphone is equipped with a volume sensitivity switch as well, which features -10, 0 and +10 setting levels. Having the ability to control mic volume sensitivity this accurately allows users to optimize mic performance when recording high-level audio and low-level audio.
The mic is even equipped with a Low Cut filter as well, which helps minimize any unwanted wind noise. Plus, for added convenience and flexibility, Hahnel ships the MK100 with two AAA batteries for up to 100 hours of running time. The mic also comes with a Hot Shoe adapter and a 3/8" thread, so it fits easily onto any camera, boompole, monopod or tripod.

Comments about hahnel MK100 Uni-Directional Microphone for DSLR & Video:
I bought this for use with a Canon 7D, and found that it picked up more camera noise than the onboard mic. While it does record a slightly better sound quality, it also records a fairly loud hiss.
I also tried the mic on my Zoom H4N and it did just fine, so this hiss is due to the AGC from the 7D, but it's still pretty bad. Worse than with just the onboard mic. I will probably return the mic, as it just doesn't seem functional.
