The Sphinx SXP Equatorial Mount with HAL130 Tripod from Vixen Optics is an innovative equatorial mount engineered to accommodate a 35 lb payload capacity. Two features make this mount stand apart from other manufacturer's equatorial mounts within the same price bracket; the mount design and the Star Book Ten hand controller. The forward-thinking design uses the body of the mount as part of the counterweight system, enabling smoother motion and less additional counterweight. The Star Book Ten hand controller includes a high resolution color LCD screen with several user-friendly navigation tools that make locating celestial bodies and aligning the optical tube as easy as pressing a button. Precision gears, periodic error correction, and an integrated polar axis scope make this mount a full-featured astronomy tool for amateur stargazers and researchers alike.
- Equatorial Mount
- This unique mount design uses the mount body as part of the counterweight system. Pulse wave-modulated motors and slow motion controls react with extremely precise and smooth movements.
- R.A. and Dec. Assemblies
- The Right Ascension and Declination mechanisms each have 180-teeth gear wheels. Precision machining of the wheels and brass worm gears delivers accurate tracking every time. Additionally, the R.A. and Dec shafts are made of strong carbon steel, and all rotating parts roll on 15 bearings.
- Polar Axis Scope
- A built in 6x20 polar axis scope features a bubble level, illuminated reticle, and setting accuracy within 3 arcminutes.
- Adjustable HAL130 Tripod
- The included HAL130 tripod is constructed from lightweight and durable aluminum, making this tripod portable yet sturdy enough to deliver steady images even when mounted with high powered optical tubes. The HAL130 has a large base to accommodate the Sphinx SXP mount. Leg sections extend from 32 to 51" and the unit weighs only 12 lb.
- Star Book Ten
- This handbox dramatically increases the functionality of the Sphinx SPX mount. Use the color display to scroll through the star chart without affecting the position of the optical tube. The 272,000 object pre-loaded database puts moons, planets, star clusters, and galaxies at your fingertips. Simply push of the GoTo button and Star Book Ten will align the optical tube with the celestial body of your interest. The fully integrated color HD LCD screen shows you the night sky before the handbox transmits the new alignment to the mount. Night Vision mode displays all information in a monochromatic red tint, allowing you to maintain night vision adaptation.
