International Orders*The PM8 8-Channel Analog Summing Mixer from Black Lion Audio provides high-quality channel summing in a compact and durable design. Analog summing is typically preferred over digital summing due to the various clock errors and signal artifacts that are often introduced with digital processing. While analog summing can potentially face channel crosstalk, thermal noise, and distortion, these issues are considered to be more acceptable and pleasing to the ear than digital artifacts, due to their "vintage" feel.
The metal chassis fits into any standard equipment rack, ideal for studio use. The mixer has 8 transformer-coupled XLR/TRS combo inputs. There are also 3 separate master outputs with XLR connectors; a passive output, a transformerless output, and a transformer-coupled output. Each channel has mute, volume, and pan controls so you can adjust the audio to suit your needs. A DB25 connector makes it easy to link a second PM8 unit if you need additional channels.
The PM8 has large 3/4 watt bus resistors that provide isolation between the channels while minimizing the thermal noise that would typically be found in a small-format device. The input and output transformers are made from a grain-oriented silicon steel, which adds a rich coloration to the sound by introducing a small amount of low-order distortion under 250Hz. This provides vintage-style console sound, but at a much more economical size and price.
