The Teradek Bond HD-SDI Broadcast Bundle is an ingenious little HD video transmission system that employs up to five USB cellular modems (not included) to send high-quality H.264 files over the Internet – from anywhere with cellular coverage and to anywhere with a high-speed Internet connection. The key to the system is the Bond device's ability to split an encoded H.264 stream into pieces, and the system's Adaptive Internet Streaming technology, which adjusts bit rates and buffering on the fly based on changing network conditions.

The HD-SDI Broadcast Bundle starts with the Cube 150 encoder, which has an HD-SDI input that accepts a compatible signal from your camcorder's output. The encoder sends the encoded H.264 video to the Bond device via USB. Bond works its magic in conjunction with the 3G/4G USB cellular modems that you've attached to the device like antennae. Even with all those elements combined, this is remains a low-power, lightweight system – Bond and the Cube 150 together weigh only 13 oz.

For broadcasters and freelance camera operators, this setup means that even with mediocre network coverage, delivery of a high-definition video stream is ensured. How do these cellular streams get recombined into a usable video signal? Teradek supplies Sputnik software, which can exist either on a Linux server or in a cloud computing environment, such as Amazon EC2 or Rackspace. Sputnik puts out an MPEG-TS stream that's compatible with most H.264 IP decoders, including the Cube 350 decoder that's included in this bundle. The Cube 350 has an Ethernet connection and an HD-SDI output to enable the signal's easy integration with your video system.

Alternatively, Sputnik can be set to send the recombined stream directly to Livestream or another web video streaming service, which presents a supremely simple way to live-stream a newsworthy event.

The Bond HD-SDI Broadcast Bundle also comes with 30 days of premium support from Teradek, as well as an MPEG-TS license. The support contract covers initial system integration, configuration, testing, and unlimited phone support for the 30-day period.

Bond Multiplexer

Live streaming from any location with adequate cellular coverage
Uses up to five 3G or 4G USB modems to provide a single high-bandwidth link for streaming high-definition videos over the Internet – to the Cube 350 receiver with its HD-SDI output, or straight to a web streaming service
Adaptive Internet Streaming technology ensures that your content is delivered reliably and at the highest quality possible
Sputnik software aggregates the split-up video streams, reconstructing everything in sync and in proper sequence. The software also can be set to stream directly to the web (via Ustream, Akamai, Livestream, and more), stream to the Cube 350 decoder, or record the stream
Low-power hardware-based video compression and advanced streaming options like MPEG-TS, RTMP, etc. This bundle comes with a MPEG-TS license for direct broadcast playout from the decoder
Bond is a lightweight multiplexer that weighs less than 7 oz (200 g) and is about the size of a deck of cards
Operates on 6-28VDC power supply

Cube 150 Encoder

Camera-top HD video encoder – sends H.264 video to the Bond device via a USB connection
HD-SDI input for accepting the signal of any professional camcorder with HD-SDI output
Line-of-sight WiFi range up to 300' (91 m) for quick streaming of HD videos. Dual-band WiFi (2.4/5.8 GHz)
Users can start broadcasting on locating a broadband uplink by entering Livestream details into encoder's user interface – a free 30-day membership for a premium channel on Livestream is included with every purchase of Cube
Direct streaming to decoding devices such as a laptop or iPad is offered via the ad-hoc networking mode which eliminates the need for any other intermediary equipment
Web interface features a setup wizard to simplify configuration
You can create a network, log on to Cube's web interface, complete the setup wizard, and start streaming video after connecting video to the Cube system
H.264 high-profile (level 4.1) video compression enables high video quality at lower bit rates
A built-in scaler can be employed to downscale 1080-line video to lower resolutions (720, 480, or 240). Users can choose target bit rates (2-4 Mb/s for HD; sub-1 Mb/s for SD) and a video resolution as required based on available IP bandwidth
End-to-end latency is only 1/8 to 1/2 second
Compact design – about the size of a deck of playing cards
Mounts to a rod system, a cage, a hot shoe, or a camera baseplate
Tested extensively with camera systems such as RED ONE, Arri Alexa, and Panavision Genesis

Cube 350 Decoder

Low-power H.264 video decoder combines with the Cube encoder and the Bond device for end-to-end streaming
HD-SDI (serial digital interface) output, dual band WiFi (2.4/5.8 GHz), external USB port, and 10/100 Base-T Ethernet port. Ethernet is the typical way to connect this device to the Internet for receiving reconstituted MPEG-TS streams, which can then be integrated into your broadcast system via the HD-SDI output
Line-of-sight WiFi range up to 300' (91 m) for fast HD video streaming – you can use this decoder on set to feed HD-SDI monitors in a video village
Web interface features a setup wizard to simplify configuration
You can create a network, log on to Cube's web interface, complete the setup wizard, and start streaming video after connecting video to the Cube system
Downscaling to lower resolutions is possible via a built-in scaler that allows for output streaming resolutions of 1080p/PsF, 1080i, 720p, and 480i
Requires only 2.5 to 3.8 W of DC power
Adjustable mic level input with optional AGC and compression

MPEG-TS over IP Software License

Allows creation of MPEG-TS over IP (TCP or UDP) video stream that can be used for television broadcast equipment and IPTV set-top boxes
Works with the included Sputnik software, which aggregates the streams that Bond fragmented and produces an MPEG-TS stream from the cloud or from any Linux server
MPEG-TS streams are compatible with the Cube decoder, which can decode and output via HD-SDI
