The Lee Foundation Kit is the basic element of the Lee filter holder System. This kit contains all the necessary components (including a small screwdriver) to construct a versatile holder which will take up to four filters. When assembled, the holder in it's standard form accepts three filters - 100mm (4") wide x 2mm thick and one additional 100 x 100mm (4x4") gelatin filter. It also holds 4x6" (100 x 150mm, 2mm thick) filters.
Lee makes a variety of standard and wide angle adapter rings in screw-in and bayonet sizes as well as accessory compendium shades. When mounted, this holder will rotate on the adapter ring for positioning a polarizer or a graduated filter. Optional "side-guides" and guide mounting screws in shorter/longer lengths are available for use with 1mm and 4mm thick filters.
Note! To use this holder, an optional adapter ring must be purchased

The Lee 4x4 filter holder kit is hands-down the best filter system available.
The build quality is significantly better than the Cokin P-mount system which is one of the dominant filter holders out there.
4x4 and 4x6 filters fit this holder, the larger size allows for less possibility of vignetting on wider lenses.
Large & Medium Format users should seriously consider this system.
Buy this and you will not be disappointed.

Comments about LEE Filters Foundation Kit (Standard 4x4", 4x6" Filter Holder) (Requires Adapter Ring):
Great holder, holds 2 filters by default, additional screws and 2 more brackets included. The top thin plastic where the screws attach breaks with use... happened on 2 holders for me in the recent months, but not on the first one that I had for a year (and lost on a trip).
They are hard to find sometimes (sold out) and shouldn't be so expensive.

Love this product, use it with the lee soft nd set. Works very well. I got a 77mm wide adapter ring and use a 77 to 58 mm step down ring because of the cost of buying multiple adapters.

Very well designed and constructed item, however it's hard to believe that a manufacture couldn't do well financially by selling these for half the price.

Comments about LEE Filters Foundation Kit (Standard 4x4", 4x6" Filter Holder) (Requires Adapter Ring):
I've had one of these for years, with several graduated filters, and 2 of the adapter rings to fit various lenses. Note that if you buy a large enough adapter ring, you can then theoretically use cheaper step-down rings to fit your smaller lenses. Also note, there's a brass screw which is part of an assembly on the side of the "Foundation" including a spring and a small brass wedge which combine to hold the adapter ring in the Foundation. This, unfortunately, does occasionally come unscrewed on its own, usually in your camera bag, leaving the 3 pieces potentially separated until you re-assemble. Doesn't happen every day, but every few months of dinging around in your bag. So keep the whole thing in its pouch or a plastic bag when not in use. GOOD NEWS: If you do lose these parts, they are easily ordered from Lee directly. I called them the other day, phone was answered immediately, and in 60 seconds they took my name and are sending me the wedge piece which I finally lost in the field (I still had the screw and spring). All at no charge to me. More than I expected, so THANKS to Lee for standing behind their product. I'll put some "loctite" on the threads this time and maybe it'll stay together.

Comments about LEE Filters Foundation Kit (Standard 4x4", 4x6" Filter Holder) (Requires Adapter Ring):
It doesn't not feel that good of quality (cheap plastic feel, sharp and unfinished corners and edges on the clip parts).
And also the clips that allows the filter sliding in are not that smooth when inserting the filter.
Yes, I am worried that the screws holding all the clips together will come loose when the day I forget to bring that big screwdriver (provided).
And why can the knurled knob with the spring catch for the adapter ring be turned loose and potentially come off? If it can come loose, chances are it will come loose in the field - then the filter holder will become useless. The choice of the material and design for the knob should be reconsidered - not a coarse rough surface metal knob that can be act as metal file to scratch other equipment around it.
LEE's design team should re-design these parts along with the general quality of the product.

This item is really hard to come by. Finally received from B&H, first impression is solidly build. for the price compare from other brand, I think it's great deal, hope it will last, also bought the 77mm WA adapter ring work with it, WA adaptor ring is little pricy, I'm happy with the quality. Better built than the competing products, the WA rings are a nice touch. Not giving it 5 stars because Lee needs to get their supply chain act together.

The Lee filter holder is becoming the standard for photographers using 4x6 filters, especially graduated neutral density. This filter holder will allow you to position your filters wherever necessary.
A must have for anyone doing serious landscape photography.

Comments about LEE Filters Foundation Kit (Standard 4x4", 4x6" Filter Holder) (Requires Adapter Ring):
The construction of this is really solid. I would like to see the screw design to secure filters changed to something that don't require tools, because seriously why do I want to carry a screw driver just for this one use?
A note on the adapter rings (required here). I'd just get one for your largest lens, and get step-up rings. It will be way cheaper than buying the different sizes. I bought both the 77mm wide angle and the 77mm regular, and found the design difference not really worth the price difference. The regular one adds about 1 round filter's height, so if your lens gets vignetting with two stacked round filters but not one, and if you are that concerned with vignetting then you should spend the extra for the wide angle version. Otherwise the regular version is fine.

Comments about LEE Filters Foundation Kit (Standard 4x4", 4x6" Filter Holder) (Requires Adapter Ring):
[...] Initial impressions after taking it out of the box, it's obvious that this kit is a quality product based on the feel and the tightness of the spring load. I installed this on my Nikon lens with a 77mm adapter and it fits like a glove. Other lenses (72mm and 67mm) with their respective adapters fits without any issues. It was easy to install and remove 4x4 glass filters (haven't used them with any resin filters) without any scratches on the contact points. The mechanism to adhere the filter is a bit tight at first but got better after a few uses without loosening too much to the point of me worrying about the filter falling out and breaking. I have only put 2 filters on at once and there are attachments to add another 2 more in the package but I have not found this necessary in my line of work.Overall, I recommend the product based on the quality and ease of use although it is still hard to find.

Comments about LEE Filters Foundation Kit (Standard 4x4", 4x6" Filter Holder) (Requires Adapter Ring):
Another quality product presented by Lee. The Foundation Kit is a holder for the 4X6 Lee filters, which without the kit must be hand held with no control over placement over the lens (Grad ND). Along with the necessary lens adapter ring, filters can be placed over the lens and correctly positioned and adjusted for optimum placement.

Comments about LEE Filters Foundation Kit (Standard 4x4", 4x6" Filter Holder) (Requires Adapter Ring):
The Lee Foundation Kit is beautifully made and functions perfectly with the Lee filters. As you may know, these filter holders are usually in short supply, (as are the Lee filters) so I had to wait a month or two after deciding to purchase until they arrived in the store. Well worth the wait though. Remember you also need to purchase an adapter ring for each lens with which you plan to use the filters, and they too can be hard to come by.
