The 52mm 250D Close-up Lens from Canon is for quick and easy close-up photography. The close-up lens is screwed on to the front of a lens like a filter. Close-up lens 250D has two achromatic elements to correct chromatic aberrations. It does not degrade the high optical performance of EF lenses.

This is a cool macro tool for those of us that can't spring the cash to buy a full macro lens. I use it in coupled to a Nikon 50mm prime lens mounted on a D40 and a tripod. I got really nice, tack sharp, images of flowers and insects. I recommend using manual focus since the D250 can confuse the autofocus. In any case there is more artistic control with manual focus.

Good quality lens - but don't bother.

Lens works best to pull in light for close ups but it's really hard to tell the difference without it when using a Canon Powershot A80 for studio-like shots of jewelry.

      Comments about Canon 52mm 250D Close-up Lens:

The two elements wont do miracles. This is still a close up filter and will do what a filter do. If you need great quality, go for a macro. But if you don't want to spend your money to have some nice macro photos, then this is your product.
It will cause distorcions in the borders and it won't give you much focus deepness.

Use this close up lens on my Canon 60mm f/2.8 EF-S Macro. Works best with 50mm to 100mm lens range. You'll love the close up pictures you will get of flowers, bugs, small stationary items. Very fun close up lens to have.

              Comments about Canon 52mm 250D Close-up Lens:

The canon 250d is a great, affordable way to get into macro photography. It does it's job very well. I had a 500d for my telephoto lens, but upgraded lenses, and the 500d didn't fit the new lens. So bought this 250d to use with my Nikkor 35mm af-s lens. If anybody wants to dabble into macro photography, but doesn't want to pay an arm and leg, I recommend this product hands down.

                Comments about Canon 52mm 250D Close-up Lens:

I bought this lens to attach onto my 50mm f/1.8 lens to use for macro photos before I decide to spend money on a dedicated macro lens. I was really happy with the sharpness of the photos and how much of the frame I could fill with an object. It is threaded on the front, so you can add any filters or a threaded lens hood if you need to. If you're looking for an inexpensive alternative to buying a macro lens, this is the right choice for you.

                                  Comments about Canon 52mm 250D Close-up Lens:

The Canon 52mm 250D is the smaller of two 250D models offered by Canon. The larger version is 58mm. The 250D's name contains its focal length of 250 mm, which is equivalent to 4 diopters (diopters = 1000 mm / focal length in mm = 1000/250 = 4).

The two Canon 52mm 250D copies that I purchased from B&H Photo arrived in well-protected factory cases of clear plastic, with screw-on lids. Oddly, the black metal lens frames of both lenses had small scraps down to the bare metal, at equal 120 degree spacing, on the camera side of the frame. At first I was concerned about impairment of the threads; but upon closer inspection, I found that the scraps were caused by three round protrusions on the lid of the plastic cases, designed to hold the lenses in place in the cases, perhaps a minor oversight by Canon in the packaging the lens. The scrapes proved to be of cosmetic concern only. The threads worked fine.

With suitable adapters, the 250D worked well as a close-up lens when tested with two camcorders. One camcorder was HD (1080i) with a 10X zoom lens. With the 250D in place, this camcorder could maintain its auto focus at a distance of 220 mm, +/- 32 mm throughout its zoom range. The other camcorder was SD (480i) with a 25X zoom lens. With the 250D in place, this camcorder could maintain its auto focus at a distance of 210 mm +/- 30 mm throughout its zoom range. Chromatic aberration was so close to zero with both camcorders as to be a non-issue, a tremendous compliment to this lens and to the two camcorders. Some geometric distortion was evident with both cameras, but more so with the SD 25X camcorder, perhaps because of its greater zoom range. It was not clear to me what role the camcorders, versus the 250D, played in this distortion. Corner-corner and edge-to-edge focus was excellent with the HD 10X camcorder, and good with the SD 25X camcorder throughout their respective zoom ranges, suggesting that any focusing issue was likely confined to the SD 25X camcorder itself.

In sum, the 250D is an excellent close-up lens for use with camcorders. Now, if only Canon would offer the 250D in a smaller size, preferably 37 mm, which would better accommodate the smaller lens sizes of camcorders. That would reduce the cost of the lens, would eliminate the need for an adapter ring in many cases, and would reduced the number of required adapter rings from two to one in other cases.

It's not good as I expect. Maybe it works for many things but it didn't work well for my tiny LED products(0.25mm). There is no big difference with this Lens for the tiny objects.

It takes a bit of getting used to in terms of distance to focus, etc. but the results have been all I could have expected.

                                              Comments about Canon 52mm 250D Close-up Lens:

I bought this to use with a Canon EF 50mm 1.8 lens and it works wonderfully for macro photography. Image quality does not change with adding this lens and maintains its sharp details. Works best with manual focus and tripod but that's true with any macro lens

                                              Comments about Canon 52mm 250D Close-up Lens:

I noticed no change in optical quality using it on a canonef 50mm 1.8 with superb results. For only 80 bucks you can begin a new style of photographythat would normally cost much more. make sure you read the specs to purchase the appropriate250D or 500D for your lens.

                                              Expertise: Avid photographer

Problems Encountered: My product out of the box had some scuff marks on the outermetal parts. pure aesthetic, lens is fine. heavy for afilter but not really a problem.

Items I Recommend: normal to short telephoto lens.
