Comments about Swedish Chameleon SC3:MEDIUM Video Rig:

After checking out SHAPE, Red Rock, Zacuto and several other systems, I finally settled on the SC3 system for shooting DSLR for a new Discovery TV series I'm producing at Undertow Films. The rig has been a total godsend. While incredibly light and versatile, it's also remarkably stable, even with a 5.6 inch TV logic monitor (w battery mount).

The big deal here for me are the ergonomics of the follow-focus with the highly versatile handle placement, along with the smoothness of the follow focus itself. Being able to hold onto the handle while rolling focus is HUGE for me, and the focus system is absurdly smooth. The belt system is fast, easy and buttery.

Though I bought the Medium rig, I'm surprisingly happy with even with the Small rig set up using smaller lenses. Once the larger 70-200 VR goes on (yup, I'm a Nikon D800 user), that Medium rig comes into play, and it's incredibly pleasant to shoot with, taking nearly all the weight off the shooters hands. The only issue of course, is when working run-and-gun, I often need to ditch the stabilizing belt, etc, but it's a fairly quick fix- I just loosen the 15mm rod at the shoulder pad, drop the belt and stabilizing rod, and off I go.
