Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.
Includes dedicated hood cap.

Comments about Leica Hood for 35mm f/1.4 M Lens (#11874) (Replacement):
Like all things in the Leica M series, this replacement lens hood is not cheap, but it is very well built and works perfectly. I did not realize how much the lens shade helped my daytime outdoor photos until I lost my original lens hood and lived without it for several months.

Comments about Leica Hood for 35mm f/1.4 M Lens (#11874) (Replacement):
Purchased this when I damaged the hood on my 35MM Summilux 1.4 ASPH. Easy to install and It fits perfectly. It is exactly the same hood that comes with the lens. It's a little pricey, but you don't really have alternatives when it comes down to it.

Comments about Leica Hood for 35mm f/1.4 M Lens (#11874) (Replacement):
My 35/1.4 aspherical came with a hood like the 12451 currently used on the 28 Summicron. It fell off frequently and I broke three of them. This hood stays put and is more resilient when squashed or suffers an impact.
