The 55mm UV Protector Filter from Tiffen is a wise initial investment. It can help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. A UV filter not only minimizes the bluish cast sometimes found under daylight conditions, but is also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens.
A UV filter is the best available protection for the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to them as "cheap insurance".
Aside from that more-than-significant benefit, UV filters cut through some of the haze in the atmosphere rendering your photos clearer, sharper and more contrasty. For those who enjoy outdoor photography, especially distant vistas, a UV filter can produce a more distinct image by removing much of the blue tint normally associated with atmospheric haze.
A UV Protector is probably the most popular UV filter people use. As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times to guard against front element damage but also adds the benefit of rendering your images clearer.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

Amazing filter for the price, not the best UV filter out there, but for my skill level i couldnt notice any difference from images between with filter and without filter.
I use it mainly for protection, since i dont go to high altitudes to properly test this.
Overall, nice price for such quality, because cheap filters can ruin your images.

The classic protection filter - cuts the haze, protects the lens. I put this kind of filter on every lens I own. The Tiffen filters seem a little wobbly when I go to clean them, but they are just fine on the lens. Good buy.

Comments about Tiffen 55mm UV Protector Filter:
I bought this filter primarily to protect my lens. It came at a great price for such a simple purpose. I live near the beach though, and found that my photographs have a wider range of color when shooting in such a blue setting. I would recommend this filter. Note - I am a photo hobbyist, not professional.

I wanted an inexpensive lens for basic protection. This UV filter does the job. It threads easily. Inexpensive filters often have threading problems and don't last. The Tiffen filter was eay to place and sits tight.

Comments about Tiffen 55mm UV Protector Filter:
This product works as advertised. It will protect your lens from potential damages should you be uncareful with your gear. It also protects front element from the weather. It is also easy to clean. Only downside is that it has considerable amount of flare if used at night. So this is only good for beginners and intermediate users in photography. Professionals who wants absolute quality might want to look for more professional options, such as multicoated Hoya HD or B+W F-pro uv filters

Well priced. Protects me lens. Fit perfectly.
I'm not a fan of lens caps, so my UV filter does all the protecting of a lens cap without the hassle of taking it on and off. Of course, it also has the benefit of controlling the amount of ultraviolet light that hits the sensor.
Basic piece that every lens should have.
