This adapter is used to allow cameras with no hot-shoe - but that do have a PC sync outlet - to use flashes that only feature a hot-shoe connection.

The flash can be mounted unto the adapter, which can then be mounted on the camera's cold shoe, or on a separate flash bracket. The PC end connects to the camera's sync terminal to fire the flash off-camera.

So far, all of my studio flash cables and accessories have been by Hama, and all have been inexpensive and served me well with no problems. The hot Shoe Adapter 2 is no exception.

As stated in other reviews, the fit of the top shoe is somewhat tight, but that just means it will hold the flash tighter. I use it to trigger a Canon 580EX mk I, and becuase of the tight fit the communication pins on the flash foot need to be pushed up when mounting the flash, but that's a negligible annoyance. The flash pins also come close to the metal plate inside the top shoe mount, but there is enough clearance that I have never had a problem with shorting with my Canon flashes. The construction of the unit itself is rock solid, being metal-bodied.

I'm planning on ordering more of these for additional flashes.

I purchased this adapter to be used to trigger my Canon 550EX Flash with a wireless system. It is tricky to put on and take off! Be gentle. The pins on the flash is what makes it difficult to put on the adapter.

The pins on the Canon flash need to be pushed up while the adapter is slipped into place. I had no problems removing the adapter, I simply hold the flash close to its base and I pushed the adapter out from the back. If this is not done correctly, you can break the flash foot. Be GENTLE!

I also use the adapter on my Nikon SB-600 and SB-800 Flashes. The issue here is that the flashes cannot be locked-on to the adapter. The Nikon flashes CAN slip-off and get damaged in a fall.

Comments about Hama Hot Shoe Adapter 2 - Hot Shoe with PC (Male) Sync Cord:

I use this, coupled with a Wein PN Peanut optical slave, to trigger a second off-camera strobe. It's a much less expensive option than going with another PocketWizard and it's independent of any brand or manufacturer. The construction of the piece feels solid. I don't worry about it as a 'weak link' between my strobe and umbrella stand. The contacts and body are metal, with some plastic areas covering the electronics inside.

Until there is something better on the market, these adapters serve the purpose. The are fairly reliable and straightforward. The clips on the inside that hold tension on your flash have popped out already, but this unit is a needed accessory for my setups.

Comments about Hama Hot Shoe Adapter 2 - Hot Shoe with PC (Male) Sync Cord:

I've had two dedicated hotshoe adapters for the pocketwizard triggers break on me...which costs more than $40 each. I've decided to get this with a pc-to-1/8" adapter for my pw. Other than a very difficult time putting this on my 580ex and taking it off (because of the tight fit), it works well for the price.

The shoe on this is mechanically too narrow. It did not fit my Canon 580EXII flashes, nor my Pocket Wizard Flex/TT5 transceivers, nor my Pocket Wizard Mini transmitter. [...] I cannot recommend it for Canon system users. Buy at your own risk!

I wanted a hot shoe to PC sync cord in the bag, just in case. This is standard issue equipment. My only concern is the PC plug is slightly loose in the socket. It works despite this.

this is built very poorly. I was shocked that this got such decent reviews. I guess for the price it's OK and it does function..for now. be aware it smaller than most adapters and fits in a stroboframe type cold shoe adapter, but most built in cold shoes it's just too small. watch you r flash hit the ground many times. you can either bend the adapter so it hold this in and then no other regular size foot on all you other flashes will fit or just gaffer tape it up. Why should one hve to do this? the cord is suc a narrow gauge and the pc is small and slip out of my old cameras most of the time. why didn't I spend twice as much , save myself some grief and get a paramount hotshoe adapter to rollei PC that would last for years??? oh, I know... I'm a cheapskate meathead.

Comments about Hama Hot Shoe Adapter 2 - Hot Shoe with PC (Male) Sync Cord:

This little adapter does exactly what it says with no fuss. Flash attaches pretty well considering theres no locking ability from either flash or adapter. Adapter is a little loose on cameras cold shoe, which could be due to shoe's design, but it was an easy fix with a few small strips of electrical tape. Only drawback is no ability to lock other Nikon flash.

Comments about Hama Hot Shoe Adapter 2 - Hot Shoe with PC (Male) Sync Cord:

This is a good little problem solver and more versatile than a simple male to male sync cord for what I do. I use this to allow me to use small pocket flashes (and even larger flashes) on an old Yashica medium format TLR. The only downside is a lack of a locking mechanism so the adapter is a little loose in the cold shoe on my camera, but its nothing a little tape or piece of felt can't fix.

Comments about Hama Hot Shoe Adapter 2 - Hot Shoe with PC (Male) Sync Cord:

When I went looking to get my 430EXII off-camera I ran into some lousy advice and options far out of my price range. Sure, I could have gone with a wireless setup for $600, or even purchase another flash for $500, but realistically I just wanted to learn how to use my current equipment in a different way. A PC-Sync cable was just the answer I was looking for. Now, before I go much farther, please understand that I am willing to fore go the luxury of eTTL when using my flash off-camera which is why this solution works for me. For shots that I want my flash off-camera, I have time to setup in manual mode. I am using the Hama Hot Shoe Adapter with my 430 EXII and my Canon 40D. The 40D has a PC-Sync port already, so the adapter is really just used to make my flash fire when I press the shutter. The adapter seems to be of excellent build quality, albeit a very simple design. I have heard other people having issues with their flash hot shoe not fitting into the adapter, but I never had this issue. You will have to carefully press the flash contact pins up each time you attach the adapter, but this is of little concern. In general, I would recommend this product to anyone with a similar goal. The hot shoe adapter works. I plan to use this for a while, and once I can afford a wireless setup, I will keep this as a backup.

Comments about Hama Hot Shoe Adapter 2 - Hot Shoe with PC (Male) Sync Cord:

I use it on a Stroboframe to fire remote strobes using my camera's PC Sync socket. It hasn't let me down.

The build quality isn't that inspiring. One decent jolt could easily snap this off. Plus, I have had the spring in the socket fall out a couple of times, but that was easy to bend and put back in so it stays put.

It would have gotten 5 stars if it were less expensive.

Comments about Hama Hot Shoe Adapter 2 - Hot Shoe with PC (Male) Sync Cord:

My cheaper flashes (SB600, 580EX) don't have a PC Sync so I got this for them. It's a simple device and just works.

I wish the bottom has some sort of locking mechanism though. it would make attaching it more secure.

I needed a way to get my flash off of the camera without breaking the bank. This fit the bill just right. The piece is very well built and I like that it is all metal. My only complaint is that the pins on the bottom of my 430 have to be pushed in before sliding it into this adapter (otherwise they feel like they might break off).

After owning a couple different versions of this by other brand names, I decided I liked the metal construction of this adapter. Unfortunately the adapter does not have a screw thread at the bottom, meaning I still have to use an additional piece to mount this on a stand. Also, the Canon 550 fits so tightly in place, that it takes a little force to get it on. Once on, you can be pretty sure it is not coming off accidentally.

Adapter is well made with heavy gauge metal tracks for flash. Unit functions perfectly.
The shoe fits very tight on my Canon 550EX flash. A little more tolerance in this fit would make it easier to use.

I now have several Hama metal hotshoes. Every other type or brand has broken quickly. It would be nice to have a 1/4 threaded hole and a Nikon lock hole (which is easily Dremmeled). These units are very solid. I just got one with a bad cord, but I expect B&H will replace it with no problem.
