The AQUATICA Water Wizard Housing is designed for use with the Pocket Wizard Plus III Radio Transceiver (sold separately). It allows you to safely and reliably link up multiple underwater strobes with studio flashes on the surface without the need for any physical connections. This waterproof housing safeguards the transceiver from harsh environments and makes it suitable for spelunking, extreme boating, surf and industrial photography.
Though the Water Wizard housing cannot be actually used underwater, the equipment connected to it can be submerged freely. As long as the Pocket Wizard Plus III Radio Transceiver in the Water Wizard Housing is floating on the surface, it allows transmission and reception over a good range.
To keep the Water Wizard Housing on the surface, it features three 1/4” mounting holes to mount it on a tripod for shallow applications, and applications in deeper waters, buoyancy floats (sold separately) can be added. These help the Water Wizard Housing stay vertical, thus improving transmission.
To allow quick connection of the Water Wizard between the housings or strobes, the housing features the Ikelite bulkhead connection. This bulkhead connector can be connected via commercially available sync and extension cords of 15’ (4.5m) and 3’ (0.9m) (both sold separately). Moreover, the Water Wizard can also be used as a remote camera trigger.
Note! In order to use the housing as a camera trigger, the camera housing will need Pocket Wizard Plus III radio transceivers in a Water Wizard housing connected to it, but in this instance, it will be used as a receiver. The installation of a remote control bulkhead (# 18738) and the appropriate internal remote cord (# 19310 for Nikon 10 pins remote socket or # 19311 for Canon 3 pins remote socket cords) will help the housing trigger the camera from a remote location.
- Pool Studio Photography: A Pocket Wizard Plus III Radio Transceiver in a Water Wizard housing is connected to the camera housing, reaching out to the surface. In this instance, the housing is used as a transmitter. Other transceivers in other Water Wizard Housings also reaching out to the surface are connected to underwater strobes and mounted on tripods. Multiple units can be set up this way. Additionally, any amount of surface studio lighting can be synchronized with additional Pocket Wizard Plus III radio transceivers.
Surf Photography: A Pocket Wizard Plus III Radio Transceiver in a Water Wizard Housing can be mounted on the camera housing as a transmitter. Then, a remotely located assistant holding additional flashes with Pocket Wizard Plus III Radio Transceivers in Water Wizard Housings can be added to light up a twilight scene, or they can be used as fill flashes.
Spelunking, Caving, and Cenotes: Pocket Wizard Plus III Radio Transceivers in the Water Wizard Housing can be connected to underwater strobes and cameras to give the photographers a safe way of getting the equipment to the destination. Such a design helps synchronize the top side and underwater lighting in chambers and other remotely accessible places.
For wildlife, sport, research photography, or in any adverse weather situation requiring additional protected lighting or triggering of a camera, the Water Wizard can be mounted and left out in the open without any risk.
