The Aphex J PRE 500 500-Series Microphone Preamplifier is a single-slot 500-Series microphone preamp based on the Aphex 1788A microphone preamp. It is designed for live use as well as voice-over and ADR recording. Like the 1788A, the J PRE 500 features a Jensen JT11K8 nickel input transformer and a Jensen JT-11DL nickel output-balancing transformer. It has Aphex's Mic-Limiter technology in-line before the preamp that is designed to prevent clipping. The J PRE 500 features 48-volt phantom power, phase reverse, a 26dB pad, and a high-pass filter at 75Hz. It also has a selectable output of 16, 20, or 24dB.
The front panel 1/4" instrument input allows you to connect an instrument such as bass or guitar to the J PRE without the need for a DI box. You can monitor your input levels with the 20-segment input meter located on the front panel. With 65dB of input gain, the J PRE 500 can operate with dynamic, condenser, and ribbon microphones. It requires a 500-Series power supply for operation.
The J PRE 500 has illuminated buttons to control its phantom power, phase reverse, 75Hz high pass filter, and mic limiter on/off
