The Dual RPA 500 500-Series 2-Channel Tube Microphone Preamp from Aphex is a dual-slot, 2-channel 500-Series microphone tube preamp based on the Aphex 207D and 1788A. It is designed for live and studio use on snare and kick drums as well as drum kit overheads. The Dual RPA 500 features a solid-state front end that provides fast transient response with a tube driven back end for gain.
Each of its 2-channels features Aphex's Mic-Limiter technology. It is designed to prevent signal clipping by limiting transients before they hit the preamp. Both channels also feature independent 48-volt phantom power, phase reverse, a 26dB pad, and a high-pass filter at 75Hz that are controllable by the front-panel illuminated buttons. The Dual RPA 500 also has channel independent selectable outputs of 16, 20, and 24dBu output levels.
The front panel dual 1/4" instrument inputs allow you to connect a guitar or bass to each channel of the Dual RPA 500 without the need for a DI box. You can monitor the input levels on each channel with the dual 20-segment meters located on the front panel. Each channel provides up to 65dB of input gain allowing the Dual RPA 500 to be used with dynamic, condenser, and ribbon microphones. The unit requires a 500-Series power supply.
