In my opinion, this is the best choice for a normal lens on a DX-format camera. A 35mm lens on DX is equivalent to a 52.5mm lens on 135 film. (The DX format has a crop factor of 1.5x.) I personally like the 35mm focal length on 135 film as well. Because this lens is not a DX version, it works fine on FX and 135 film formats without cropping or vignetting. You can instead purchase a newly-released Nikon 35mm 1:1.8 DX lens, but it will vignette on a full-frame format. This lens has a minimum focus distance of about 10 inches, which is great for people who like shooting subjects that are close. The lens softens and produces chromatic aberration at 1:2, but by 1:4 it is very sharp and has little aberration. The auto-focus is very fast. This lens is extremely lightweight, so it's great to use as a prime lens. The build quality is disappointing. The inner barrel is a bit loose, although not as loose as that of the Nikon 28mm 1:2.8 lens. The plastic casing is alright. But this is a [$] lens, and I wish Nikon would go ahead and put it in a metal casing.I wanted a normal lens for my D90 with a very short minimum focus distance. With the Nikon 28mm you can focus a bit (~0.5 inches) closer, but because this lens is 7mm longer, you can get more magnification of a subject at the minimum focus distance.

This is not one of Nikon's sharp lenses, softer even than the older 50mm f1.4 and no where near as sharp as the Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens on a DX camera where the Sigma provides the perspective of a 34mm lens. Well worth the extra money to get the Sigma is you will be using a DX camera or getting the Zeiss 35mm f2 even if it is manual focus for a FX camera.

The 24-70mm f2.8 is much sharper at its 35mm focal length than this Nikon prime.

Comments about Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 35mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens:

I upgraded from the manual focus Nikon 35mm f2.5 Series E to this lens and even though I was happy with the Series E lens, I am happier now. This is a great focal length and excellent all purpose lens. It works great on my Nikon D700 and I love the clarity of the images and its fast focus.
The only thing I wish is that Nikon included the lens hood with the purchase of the lens, but otherwise I am very satisfied with the performance of this lens.

Comments about Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 35mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens:

I neglected this lens for years because I thought f2 just wasn't fast enough for a prime. My D7000's high ISO ability, however, makes this a very useful lens indeed. It's "D", so no autofocus on the cheaper Nikon bodies, but for the rest of us, this focal length is hugely useful for all sensor sizes. I bought an expensive zoom recently but find myself using this much cheaper lens far more often. Bottom line: great value and small and light enough to carry at all times.

Comments about Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 35mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens:

I've read tons of reviews of this lens before "going full frame" and most of them say that this lens isn't worth your time. I'm very happy to say that it performs very well. I was expecting very soft images at f/2 and that just isn't the case. It's a very fine performer and I'm very confident in using this for professional applications. If you are like me and are scared off by the ho-hum reviews out there, don't hesitate. It's a tiny gem and quite sharp even from f/2.

Comments about Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 35mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens:

90% of the time this is my go to lens for either my D7000 or FM3a. It provides a good field view and is incredibly crisp. It's also a great portrait lens for close shots. You really can't beat the price or how dang fast this lens focuses. It uses the AF motor in the camera body to focus but it's so fast you wouldn't know it's not an AF-S lens. Example pic taken with this lens: [@]

Comments about Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 35mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens:

I bought this lens specifically for a family road trip and it is now the lens that stays on my camera most of the time. It's fast, accurate and lightweight, making it perfect for nearly everything.I wanted to be able to capture my family in the car and get wide candid shots that included as many people as I could. This lens was able to do the job perfectly. The f/2.0 aperture works great in low-light settings like restaurants, bars, and outdoors at dusk. It also gives great separation between the subject and the background. The auto-focus is quick and accurate, too. With a small minimum focus distance, it also works great at as a near-macro lens. This lens is a great complement to my Nikon D700. It really lets me take advantage of the full-frame sensor and capture enough background to give a nice sense of the environment. One complaint is that it's a bit tough to attach to the body, but I've found that most D lenses are like that and they tend to ease over time. Also, the front glass element is rounded, so you might want to buy the optional lens hood for extra protection. If you don't want to spend the extra $1,300 for Nikon's 35mm 1.4 G, then this lens will make you very happy. I am now very fond of the wide-angle perspective this lens gives. It's my go-to lens for travel, interiors and walking-around shooting. I love it.

I switched from canon to nikon and got this lens to replace my 28mm 1.8. i am delighted with this lens, it will be my go-to for group shots at weddings. fast, crisp and a classic focal length on my D700. loves it. the only thing bad i can say is that it doesn't attach as smoothly to the camera like canons do. feels like you really have to force it. scary.

Comments about Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 35mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens:

I love to shoot street images and travel images. This lens is very light and a great alternative at the best possible price new. F 2 is fast and in actuality you have about 5 stops when shooting in manual to express what the light should look like.

I've never won and I'm getting tired of putting my heart in these reviews.

Comments about Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 35mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens:

It's 35mm, so the focal depth is pretty large. That's my only complaint. But that's expected in a wide lens. This will mostly be on a D90, but will occasionally end up on a D700. For the D90, it's a good normal (52mm-ish) with the only drawback being the large focal depth. The lens is extremely sharp and clear. AF occurs very quickly and MF is smooth and easy.
