The M 58 has been specifically designed to satisfy the demands of electric news gathering (ENG) and electronic field production (EFP) applications.
Its sophisticated internal shockmount dramatically reduces handling noise, while the microphone's frequency response has been tailored to provide broadcasters with a very accurate and intelligible sound.
The M 58's weight-balanced design provides journalists with a high degree of comfort during lengthy interviews. Its rugged construction enables the microphone to withstand physical and environmental punishment typically encountered during field production operations. The M 58's slim profile and non-reflective Nextel® finish result in a low profile on camera.

Works better and sounds better than the EV RE50. Worth the extra cost, in my opinion.

Comments about Beyerdynamic M58 - Omni-Directional Handheld Dynamic ENG Microphone:
I use this for interviews and some voice overs. It's long enough (the main reason I chose this mic) to slide up a camera flag with the wind foam on top and be grasped by a large hand with transmitter attached at bottom. Really love the warm rich accurate sound. Very classy looking as well. Thanks B&H and Beyerdynamic.

Comments about Beyerdynamic M58 - Omni-Directional Handheld Dynamic ENG Microphone:
I am a journalism student and needed an external mic for my video camera that I could use for interviews. I was hesitant about spending what, for me, is alot of money on a microphone. I settled on the m58 because of the relatively reasonable price and the good user reviews. I'm glad I did. My first interview with it was at the beach and it performed wonderfully. It mitigated the ambient noise of the wind and waves and reproduced my subject's voice with amazing clarity from a distance of around three feet.

Comments about Beyerdynamic M58 - Omni-Directional Handheld Dynamic ENG Microphone:
Not quite a durable as RE50, but durable enough for ENG work, and better all around audio quality. Superior in noisy environments, compared to RE50.

Comments about Beyerdynamic M58 - Omni-Directional Handheld Dynamic ENG Microphone:
This is the 2nd M58 I've purchased. This mic is able to handle loud spl environments like dance clubs and sports events and reject the ambient sound and give the talent a nice up front sound. Very little handling noise and nice full range voice sound. Highly recommended.

Comments about Beyerdynamic M58 - Omni-Directional Handheld Dynamic ENG Microphone:
very warm sounding, pleasant, microphone ideal for outdoor ENG shooting. very rugged, visually pleasing to the eye. Would HIGHLY-RECOMMEND the BEYERDYNAMIC M58 for ENG shoots. Much more warmth & presence you get from the Beyerdynamic M58 when comparing against other ENG mics. Worth it to pay a few more dollars. Second M58 i bought because i was happy with the quality i got from the first one.
