The B+W 43mm Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Comments about B+W 43mm Circular Polarizer Filter:
I bought this for my ag-hmc40 videocamera to reduce glare on glass and to accentuate color on a sunny day. It didn't seem to do either very well and the very edge of the lens showed up in the corners of my video during playback. I had to zoom into the picture in editing to get rid of it. I sent it back for a refund.
I will, however, continue to shop at B&H.

Comments about B+W 43mm Circular Polarizer Filter:
A circular polarizing filter is going to be screwed in and out a lot. B+W filters are beautifully crafted with lots of delightful construction details: superior metal does not flex or bend keeping it really round; good knurling to unscrew it means never getting stuck with it on in the field; a very smooth turning polarizer even in very cold weather; excellent hard-coating makes it easy to keep clean; multi-coatings really eliminate internal reflections to keep flare to a minimum. Other brands are cheaper but occasionally frustrating to live with.

Comments about B+W 43mm Circular Polarizer Filter:
I have a Caonon HV20. When shooting outdoors in very bright sunny days, sometimes the sky gets washed out. With this fitler, you can rotate the filter to get just the right amount of plarizing effect you want. Makes a big improvement.
