The Polar Pro Frame Polarizer Filter for GoPro Hero3 & 3+ Cameras mounts directly to the camera lens of the GoPro Hero3 & Hero3+ cameras, and provides a polarizing effect. This filter cannot be used with the standard GoPro waterproof housing. The filter is constructed using scratch resistant glass, is optically clear and flat, and incorporates a circular polarizer. The filter securely mounts to the camera's lens, and does not rotate once attached, so you must align the polarizer for the effect you wish before mounting it to the camera. The polarizing effect results in a 1.6 stop loss of light to the camera sensor.
The filter is constructed with a circular polarizer, which consists of a standard linear polarizer and a 1/4 wave retarder. The linear polarizer reduces glare and reflections, and can be used to darken the appearance of the sky in your image. However when used with some digital cameras the linear polarizing effect can affect the exposure of your image. The 1/4 wave retarder re-randomizes the light, while maintaining the polarizer effect, so that your exposure remains consistent.
Adjusting The Polarizing Effect
You must look through the filter, and rotate it to produce the desired effect. After you set the rotation as you want it, you mount the filter to the lens. The polarizer can be used to reduce glare, and reflections from glass or water, which are effects that cannot be successfully accomplished in postproduction.
The filter is made to be optically flat, to prevent the filter from adding distortion to your final image.
