These filters are made out of high-quality optical glass in which the surface is etched with a fine grid pattern. Depending on the pattern and size of the grid, point light sources and reflections create multi-beam stars. The grid structure of this attachment is designed so that a 6-point star is created from point light sources and reflections. The mount turns to allow the photographer the freedom to decide the orientation of the star effect.

Comments about B+W 77mm 6x Cross Screen 686 Star Effect Glass Filter:
Love the twinkly light effects--great for magical stars on bubbles.
Only downside (with bubbles in particular) is it creates a crosshatch effect on any light bokeh that is either too close or too far away to be in focus. As a result, requires closing up the aperture...

Comments about B+W 77mm 6x Cross Screen 686 Star Effect Glass Filter:
This is a fun filter when shooting scenes that have light and you are using a lower F stop. Usually a higher F stop will cause some star effects, like when shooting at night and a light is in the scene. But I use this when shooting flowers with water drops on them...really adds to the photograph. A fun filter to use!

Comments about B+W 77mm 6x Cross Screen 686 Star Effect Glass Filter:
This is the best cross screen that I've own. It has the ring so that you can turn the filter to adjust the lighting direction of the star. The other filter doens't have this option.
This is an excellent gadget to create a stunning photo with light, candles...

This filter is useful in creating artistic shots during wedding receptions or citiscapes. I like the durability of BW filter$. The rotating front works great.
