The Lowepro Orion AW Belt Pack (Black) is actually two bags; a belt pack and a detachable day pack. The packs are made from water-resistant 600 denier TXP and 600 denier TXP ripstop nylon. The bags are designed to carry a large pro SLR camera with 80-200mm f/2.8 lens, 3-4 additional lenses, flash, compact binoculars and accessories. The belt pack has a padded interior and a reverse-open lid that helps access equipment in tight spaces. There are 7 interior dividers to customize the belt pack interior. The belt pack has 3 zippered external pockets and the day pack has mesh exterior pockets.

The Orion AW has two tripod loops on bottom of the case and a rugged All Weather Cover for extreme weather conditions. The day pack has a carry handle and an ergonomic shoulder harness with a DryFlo mesh-covered lumbar pad and compression straps to help distribute the weight evenly. The belt pack has an attached waist belt and a removable, adjustable, contoured shoulder strap with pad.

Comments about Lowepro Orion AW Belt Pack:

This is a tough pack with plenty of room for your gear. Comfortable to wear as a belt pack (with shoulder strap), or as a backpack. A good pack combination for the day hikes with gear pockets to stash the little stuff. Slightly heavy for the mountain bike when loaded with gear, but very manageable when used with the backpack option. The rain cover is well thought out (with the bottom opening access) and a blessing to have when the weather turns on you. A good all purpose pack.

Comments about Lowepro Orion AW Belt Pack:

I bought this bag from B&H in about 2000 or 2001 for my Nikon F5. I carried the bag, along with the F5 with 24-120mm mounted, a 70-300mm, a 20mm, the 35mm PC, a Nikon TC-14E, an SB-28 strobe, a "C"-clamp/tripod, and a 6-pack of filters. Yes, the bag was heavy, but look what I had!

The bag has been on several continents and held up quite nicely. The backpack is a great accessory, too, permitting me to carry whatever I need but keep it all strapped up together. On several occasions I've had the need to pull out the AW cover to protect my bag from serious downpours. I use one of the small corner pockets for a one-time use poncho to protect me during those downpours, too!

At other times the bag also carries my Bronica ETRSi with 75mm attached, a 40mm, a 150mm, winder, accordion shade and a couple of extra backs, too.

Other times, I'll use it for reduced lenses and carry the F5 around my neck--keeping the ETRSi and both Nikon and Bronica lenses in the bag.

I highly recommend this bag not only for its size, but because the top opens away from your body, so when you wear it as a "waist pack" you can open it and the top is not in your way.

Of all my bags--this Orion AW, AW Pro, AW Pro MF, Bugout Bag from '87, and a couple of others--I use the Orion the most. And, of course, I bought most of those bags from B&H!

Comments about Lowepro Orion AW Belt Pack:

I was looking for a belt pack for a short hike that gives me access to all my "road" equipment (1 DSLR, 3-4 lenses) without having to take off my backpack every time I want to change the lens. The Orion AW delivers on that, but it is for the short hike only! It does get quite uncomfortable for longer hikes (> 1hr) even if the backpack option is attached. Without it, it gets painful very quickly. For those long hikes I prefer the Lowepro Rover Plus AW, which has an exceptional harness (very similar to my Dana design 4000 cft backpack).

On the up side, it is very roomy for all the camera gear (20D + 5 lenses, filters and other gizmos) and the back-pack carries the water and other goodies without a chance of it dripping into the camera compartment. The backpack part is rather small, though.

In the end, the Orion has become my standard camera storage bag, since it holds all the important gear.
