Some of the handiest tools to have on the set or in the studio. Use them for propping, leveling, standing or sitting. Nail wall plates to them to hold low angle lighting fixtures. Precisely made, supported in the center, and dimensionally correct.

I use this specific for photography. Either using it to get me above my subjects eye level (when I don't have a step ladder), equipment positioning, as well as seating or aiding in a models pose. It's well built and very sturdy, much like everything else that Matthews manufactures. It's definitely an essential piece of grip that can go a long way.

I am happy with the box but I was surprise to see the Matthews name burned into both sides of the box. I don't want their name showing up in my photos, I'd rather have my own. It took about an hour of sanding to get their name off both sides, then I had to paint in my own and stain the wood. It was a fun project but I think I had to do a lot of unnecessary work.

We use this in our Film program. Students have have used the "box" for everything from changing the dynamic of a character driven scene to propping up objects in a shot. Versatile and sturdy.

I've wanted an Apple Box for a few years for posing, elevating props in the studio and to stand on in a pinch. I finally bought the full box this month because I needed it to put on a stair in order to set a tripod leg on. My existing tripod didn't quite go tall enough.
If you're shooting a group portrait, it's safe for a shorter person to stand on this in the back of the group. Just don't try to stand on it the (tall) 20" way under any circumstances.
These are unfinished plywood, but can be painted or stained for a more polished look.

I have yet to use it, but will in 2 days. Great things about it are that it has an internal support so I don't have to worry about heavy set people having issues with it cracking or just feeling insecure. It is very sturdy.
Things that aren't so great about it are that there is a logo burned on the side of it "Matthews". Not a big deal, but if it is in the shot, I will need to be careful about the placement so that doesn't show up in the photos.

Solid construction, yet lightweight compared to older apple boxes I've used. Versatile on set. On a small ninja shoots, I've put grips on top of these boxes to hold a flags (human c-stand).

Apple boxes are a must for any home gym, in my opinion. We use them for lots of things here, mostly to reach a chinup bar that's too high, raise a kettlebell off the floor for someone who doesn't have the range of motion to go all the way to the floor, etc. I've owned several of these, this is my first in this size, wouldnt' want to be without them all.

The only downfall to these is that they plastered the "Matthews" logo on the front of all the boxes... I'm planning to paint over them. Otherwise, these are my new favorite toys!

Looks 5 times better in person...don't want to stand on it...Very well made sturdy and multiple uses. I usually drape with fabric for still life shots, or for elevating a model or myself, I mean I could go on and on with usefullness of this box!

This apple box is sturdy, but rough around the edges. I almost got a splinter the first time I grabbed it. It took a while, but I've since sanded it down and there's no more problems.

This seems very well made and the fit and finish is better than the Empire brand in my experience.
I would recommend this size as it's the most versatile size. The price is right as well and it seems like it will last a lifetime.
