Yes I know it is a little bit outdated. And yes there are many new cameras on market with bigger resolution but I find this camera price/performance winner. For this price you can not buy better body. Commands are intuitive. this camera has a very good per pixel sharpness. Images are good even at high ISO settings. Excellent battery life.
I use it every day mainly for portraits and landscape.

I purchased the 30D from B&H in late July and liked it immediately, but I noticed the auto focus was sometimes completely off. Then in October, I noticed that the shutter/mirror was hesitating and/or getting stuck. I mailed the camera back to Canon and got it back in a few days with a letter saying the shutter/mirror operation was repaired and theC-mos was cleaned. I then shot about 100 more photos and the auto focus stopped working -- in the middle of a press conference. It would search for focus but wouldn't actually select a focus. The body is back in the shop. Canon is doing the repair for free but they have denied my request for a new body and were unfazed by the inconvenience I'm suffering as a working press photographer who is also presently enrolled in a photography course. I've based my ratings below on the camera when it was functioning, but the trouble I've had have been really disappointing.

Comments about Canon EOS 30D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
I bought this camera used and it is not a disappointment. I use it quite often and it has never failed me. I have used it for events and weddings and the results continue to be spectacular. I have used the comparable camera from the most prolific competitor and I can honestly say that the Canon 30D outperforms that camera. It is much easier to use, and it is better designed to be steady when shooting. The value for the price is unbeatable.

This is one of the best investments I ever made. I could not be more pleased with my 30D. I am also glad that I bought the 17-85 mm lens. I use both the wide angle and zoom almost every time I shoot... so versatile!! The Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens is my next splurge.

I purchased this camerar approx. 1 1/2 ago. I use it for everything. My kids sports, travel, family pics etc. Now my teenager is borrowing for her yearbook class. She loves it too! The only thing a had a problem with was the weight of the camera when used with my 28-135mm is lens which is a heavy lens. However, I have petite hands. I recommend it.

Comments about Canon EOS 30D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
I have owned the 30D for two years, it produces wonderful images. I can also testify to its ruggedness. In early October, while photographing trains, I fell off a bridge and hit some rocks while wearing the camera around my neck. The camera body suffered three dings but continues to work beautifully. I am amazed at its ruggedness.

Comments about Canon EOS 30D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
Bought camera about a year ago and loved it for the first 8 or 9 months, then it started producing erratic and unreliable results - photos were often either badly over or underexposed - 5 sequential shots would give 5 different results - even bracketing was unreliable. I think it has something to do with the electronics, but purchasing and installing a new battery didn't help. Hope I can get it repaired as a backup - it was a great camera when it worked. Also found dust to be a problem, even though I was extremely careful when changing lenses. Think the camera handles very well generally, but am not a fan of having the on/off button on the back. The Rebel has the switch on the top which was easier to use, and made more sense. Am thinking about the 40D (hoping price will drop now that the 50D is out...)

Comments about Canon EOS 30D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
I needed a back-up camera for my Canon 5D without the cost of another 5D. The choice was between a 30D and 40D as these both operate similarly to the 5D. The 40D is basically the 30D with a greater number of pixels on the sensor and a few extra bells and whistles. Now that the 30D has been superceeded B&H were selling them for a lot less than a 40D, so decision was made.
It is a brilliant camera- easy to use, feels tough, very quick to operate. For a recent contract job to take birds at a botanical garden the 1.6 crop gave extra power to the zoom lens coupled with the 5 shots per second it was ideal. It is thus a perfect companion to the 5D which is full framed sensor and less shots per second but renders beautiful skin tones like no other camera on the market. I really enjoy using the 30D.

I use the 30D for freelance weddings and events for my job. Very quiet in high ISO and great in low light situations. I used a 28-135 IS ultrasonic lens and i love using my 50mm 1.8 lens. I will probaly buy another 30D body in the near future as i am using a xt and a xti body. This camera is a must-buy if you want to upgrade from the xt or xti.

I really like this camera, so much so this is my second body purchase. After using the first 30D body for only 3 months, I immediately proceeded to buy another one as I always like to have a back up, only to find that Canon stop making this one and replaced it with what they called an upgrade, the 40D. I was happy that I was able to find still new stock at B&H (as I don't like to buy used) and acquired my second 30D body. [...]

This is my second 30D. I photograph real estate as a freelancer and my cameras have to work everyday, 7 days a week. I've found the 30D to be a perfect combination of almost "pro" quality with a price that doesn't break the bank.

i bought the 30D to replace my 10D that i used for 5yrs. i chose the 30D over the 40D because the 40D has live view . i will never use this function. mega pixel count was not a big issue either. i also own 1D MKII .i print no bigger than 13X19. i don't know if my eyeballs can see the difference.i love the 30D because it has along
shutter live of 100,000 actuations and the compatability with my canon flashes etc.

Comments about Canon EOS 30D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
I bought this camera to upgrade from my digital Rebel, and so far it has been well worth the cost. Colours are amazing, pictures are sharp, and I have a lot more "keepers" with this camera. It's a big upgrade from the Rebel, in quality of construction and images. The build feels more natural and better quality, not like a toy. Shutter feels slow and focus is slightly louder, but it doesn't affect me or my images. Overall, I love this camera.
