The Lensbabies Lensbaby 3G works on the same principal as the Lensbaby 2.0, but also allows you to lock the lens into place once you have found your "sweet spot" of sharp focus and then to do fine focus adjustments. It is the ideal tool for photographers who require precise focusing, complete control, longer exposures, and repeatability.
When working with dynamic subject matter you can focus the Lensbaby 3G just like the Lensbaby 2.0 - by compressing and bending. For slower moving or static subject matter, you can lock the lens in place simply by pressing a button on the focusing collar. Then you can fine focus using a traditional barrel focusing ring and fine tune the tilt to place the sweet spot exactly where you want.
The Lensbaby is a hybrid between a bellows camera and a tilt-shift camera. The SLR lens can be compressed, extended, and/or bent off-center in any direction for different effect. It will add a unique perspective on the world that is a radical departure from the precision of digital or even film photography. It allows for selective focusing with SLR cameras. Effects like blurring, glowing highlights, and subtle, prismatic color distortions can all be achieved without software manipulations.

Comments about Lensbabies Lensbaby 3G Special Effects Lens for Minolta Maxxum & Sony SLR:
This is a very fun lens to have and I have been able to get some very interesting shots with it so far. However, I would concur with other reviews I have read that it takes some practice to get used to: operating the bellows to get what you want in focus and then distorting the image just enough to still maintain the sweet spot. I had considered purchasing the Lensbaby2 because it is less expensive. But I am glad I bought the Lensbaby3 because of its locking mechanism. I know that I won't always take advantage of it, but it is good to have when I need it. I look forward to continuing my experimentation and to some very interesting photography.
Comments about Lensbabies Lensbaby 3G Special Effects Lens for Minolta Maxxum & Sony SLR:
Tired of chasing the paradigm of high resolution? Stuck in the rut of photorealism? Then the Lensbabies 3G is for you. The lens harkens back to the days when photography was filled with a sense of illusion and allusion, when the camera was a magic box, not a technological tool governed by lines of resolution. The 3G allows you to control depth of field, sharpness/blur, and composition with an air of simplicity. There are dozens of websites dedicated to the Cult of Lensbabies: take a look and then buy the 3G. The only caveat is that if you count your megapixels, have to have the latest digital camera, and think vignetting is something to be removed in RAW and use the unsharp mask on all your images, this is not the lens for you.
