Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 (D) DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Sony Alpha & Minolta Maxxum Series:
I bought this lens to be my all-around lens. It covered all the focal ranges I wanted at the time and has performed very well.
From time to time the focus is a little soft, but that is a pretty rare occurrence.
For the price, if you are just beginning with dSLR, this is a terrific lens.

I use this lens when I am on vacation and as a general purpose lens when I don't want to carry extra gear. Overall I would rate this lens as very good. The focus is a little soft around the corners at the ends of the zoom range, however keep in mind its intended use. This is a great lens if you want to just attach it and forget it for vactaion and general use.

I am a beginer with digital picturing but I can tell you that I replaced 2 lenses with this one. Great for travelling and to have it on ALL the time. Less changing. The only time you may need a better lens is when zooming at night with not enough lighting, perhaps a F2.8 fixed but again, they are expensive. For me and my wife, for family / kids, playing sports, beach, cook out, you can't go wrong. I was debating between this and the 70-200 2.8 fixed for [$]. Good choice !!

On the whole I am not sorry I purchased this lens. I wanted an inexpensive lens that covered a wide focal range and that is what I got. It appears to be reasonably sharp, however the focusing is slow (got the camera shortly before so it could be my Alpha) in comparison to a D80 the barrel zooms a little unevenly, might smooth out the more I use it, feels like thick lube unevenly applied. At the end of the day, it does the job and I could have spent a lot more dough and not ended up with any better product.

He was looking for a lens better than Tokina 28-300mm I have for the Sony Alpha 100 and bought only by reading the specifications of the site and had a good surprise. It is a versatile lens serves both in internal and external environments and has an excellent macro. The images produced when using this focus on 300 mm is of good quality and are well clear the photos, it is often necessary focus manually. The images using teleconverter 2x are not good. My lens is still new and perhaps why it is a bit harsh I think it is just have a bit of patience with it. Do not use filters of any kind.
