The Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG lens is a compact and lightweight constant f/2.8 aperture zoom lens that is optimized for digital SLR cameras, but can also be used with film SLR cameras. The 28-70mm zoom range makes this lens the ideal choice as a standard zoom lens for photojournalism or general photography.
The lens is specially optimized for digital SLR cameras, and Super Multi Coating gives superb color performance while cutting down flare and ghost. Two SLD elements and four aspherical lenses provide the ultimate correction against distortion as well as all types of aberration, especially spherical aberration. Comments about Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 (D) EX DG Autofocus Lens:
The fit and finish are excellent, as they are with Sigma lenses in general, and it balances well on my A850 body. Focus is fast. The only negative aspect is that my images are not as sharp as I had expected them to be. At f2.8 you would have to be doing pictorialist photography. It is sharpest in the middle of the zoom range, as is usual with zooms, but I found that I had to stop down to f8 to get usable sharpness. Stopping down further degraded the image.

Comments about Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 (D) EX DG Autofocus Lens:
For the price this is a great lens. Using on a full frame Sony a850 I compaired it to a Sony lens and found the Sigma to be as good or better with image quality. Fast and sharp focusing in all ranges.

Comments about Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 (D) EX DG Autofocus Lens:
Purchased the Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 lens to upgrade from the standard Sony kit lens that ships with Alpha DSLRs. Have been very pleased with the image and build quality of this lens, excellent value for the price. Allows the Sony Alpha to reach its full potential.
Decided on this lens after seeing the photos that the 'Sigma 28-70mm f2.8' group at Flickr had posted. Chose this zoom lens over the Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens (which seems to be the other major contender for a high optical quality lens for the Alpha) due to the versatility that the zoom focal lengths afford.
Would definitely purchase again, this is my first Sigma lens and am impressed with the overall construction and quality of it (definitely not a plastic toy like so much of what is manufactured today).
