Light weight, Sharp Image, Autofocus, Worth your money, Very portable for traveler, F8 is not a problem if you get a high ISO performance body, such as SLT-A55. And donuts bokeh only happens in some condition, not all.

Comments about Sony SAL-500F80 Telephoto 500mm f/8.0 Reflex Autofocus Lens:
Works great with excellent sharpness and for what it was designed to do. I use it to focus on wildlife and individual objects at a distance which I can't do very well with my existing telephone lens. It's not suitable for use as my primary lens but excellent as a supplemental lens.

I purchased this lens to round off my collection of lens for my Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D camera. This lens is very sharp and takes great moon shots. I used this lens to shoot birds and the results are very pleasing.

This lens can do a full moon shot making everything show. I would highly recommend classes for inexperienced photographers. Wild life photos are stunning. Catch a humming bird and make larger than life. It is also so small and such a power house!

Comments about Sony SAL-500F80 Telephoto 500mm f/8.0 Reflex Autofocus Lens:
This is NOT a lens for action photos. The small aperture definitely affects auto focus speed. That being said, it IS a sharp lens. Keep in mind that being a mirror lens, there is a loss of contrast, and at time some serious vignetting, both of which can be easily fixed in post processing. You need to experiment with this lens to get the best results. The compact size is a definite plus. If you can afford it, I would consider passing on this lens for the Sony 70-400mm. Since I have purchased this lens, I have generally been pleased with it, but I am in the process of purchasing the 70-400. I plan to keep both.

i use it for birding, have a bit difficulty with focusing on a bird in the sky, as the auto focus won't work "easily"
the cap is UNCOMFORTABLE - i put it aside and am looking for a "clip on" one

This lens is better than I though it can be.
I was surprised at how fast and accurately it's auto-focused. It works Best on the A-700 and much Faster than my A-100. I Bought it to shoot Deer Photos and it's Great.

This is the only auto mirror lens in the world ,
works great and can be handhold .I could take a picture hand hold down to 1/25 sec, it is so unbelieveable ,no another tele lens can do that .The picture is reasonable sharp but not razor sharp. The color and sharpness can be ajusted with photoshop.Remember you only pay a small price campare to regular 500mm lens.so don,t complain. The background sometimes with interesting or funny dougnut shape boken ,only cproblem is ,can't use APO 2x converter lens

Comments about Sony SAL-500F80 Telephoto 500mm f/8.0 Reflex Autofocus Lens:
NICE lens. I was surprised at how fast and accurately it auto-focused. I took 2 handheld shots of a satellite dish on a roof down the road. It filled the frame. I took one with SuperSteadyShot and one without. Mode is A, ISO is Auto. Camera used ISO 320, 1/500 shutter. Both photos were sharp under in-camera zoom (I could easily read the lettering on the dish), but SSS photo was tack sharp under zoom. NICE. Can't beat it for the money.

For its compact size this Sony 500mm lens really delivers. Sharp photos with either manual or the great auto-focus feature, mountains or aircraft overhead come in clear, sharp. whether I use my tripod or just holding steady so far I'm pleased with the results.

Comments about Sony SAL-500F80 Telephoto 500mm f/8.0 Reflex Autofocus Lens:
I purchased this lens for two up-coming events (the US Open and the Miramar Air Show). I have taken a few hand held photos at La Jolla Shores and at the San Diego Zoo and I was very pleased with the focusing speed and accuracy, color accuracy and image quality. The lens is light and easy to carry around. At first, I thought the lens would have limited use but I am finding that I can use it for more shots than I had initially thought. In all the situations, I set the camera setting to “auto” and ISO to 800. This approach kept the shutter speeds short (1/800 sec or shorter for moderately to well lit subjects). No regrets.
