We've imported this European version specifically so you can enjoy more options than you'll usually find on North American models.
The multi-system device includes a 250GB hard disk drive, a DVD recorder that works with single- or dual-layer discs, and a USB port. Content can be recorded from one format to another, depending on file type and size. The DMR-EH59GA-K has a PAL tuner, and can also record SECAM programming. This model also plays NTSC region 1 (USA) discs via HDMI or A/V inputs but cannot receive over-the-air US TV signals.
If you've got video or audio devices that you'd like to hook up to the DMR-EH59GA-K for additional recording options, you're in luck. The Panasonic recorder includes an assortment of inputs that will meet your needs. For playback, the DMR-EH59GA-K provides digital and analog outputs including HDMI, optical, component, and composite jacks.
The DMR-EH59GA-K is also chock full of features that once you try, you won't be able to do without. For example, if the machine should run out of room when recording a TV program to DVD, it records the overflow onto HDD. During recording, the Auto Scene Chapter function inserts chapter marks between scenes for easy review. And when playing a CD or recording it to HDD, the DMR-EH59GA-K taps into the embedded Gracenote Database to supply information about the music and the artist.
Almost needless to say, the Panasonic DMR-EH59GA-K is a superb DVD/CD player. The unit includes 1080p upconversion, Dolby Digital, and Linear PCM for brilliant video and audio. The versatile DMR-EH59GA-K lets you record TV programs on the hard disk drive (HDD), as well as copy music, movies, and photos to it. Recording time using the HDD ranges from 55 hours in XP Mode to 441 hours in EP Mode.

You also have the ability to record on DVD discs at several quality settings. Recording time using 4.7GB single-sided discs ranges from 1 hour in XP Mode to 8 hours in EP Mode. For 8.5GB dual-layer discs, recording time ranges from 1 hour 45 minutes in XP Mode to 14 hours 20 minutes in EP Mode. (Recording to dual layer discs is only available from the hard drive).

By interpolating video data using proprietary algorithms, SD format data is up-converted to 1080 x 1920p HD format video data. This conversion to HD format increases the richness of the original data by approximately six fold, and produces the highest possible image quality when viewing content on a large-screen HDTV.

Similarly, the unit features an advanced control system that automatically adjusts fan speed based on information received from an internal heat sensor. When the recorder's internal temperature rises, the fan turns on to prevent overheating. Conversely, when the temperature is low, the fan shuts off entirely, providing whisper-quiet operation.
