Sony PVM-X300

The Sony PVM-X300 is a high end 30” professional production monitor. It features a 4096x2160 IPS LCD display with a 17:9 aspect ratio. The full Dci 4K panel allows it to display full Dci 4K without any scaling or cropping as well as a full 16:9 UHD image with just a small pillarbox. The 30” display size means viewers need to be about 2' away to see the full resolution making it ideal for use at an editing desk right next to a computer monitor.  Its 30” size also makes it portable enough to use a field monitor.

The PVM-X300 is extremely versatile and can handle almost any 4K signal variation out there. It has four BNC inputs, dual display port inputs, and dual HDMI inputs. The PVM-X300 can input Quad Link HD-SDI for up to 10 bit 4:2:2 4K at 24P or 30P, Quad Link 3G-SDI for up to 12 Bit 4:4:4 4K at 24 or 30P or 10 bit 4:2:2 4K at up to 60P, HDMI 1.4 for 8 bit 4K at up to 30P, and displayport for use as a 4K computer monitor.

The PVM-X300 can also be purchased in a bundle with the BKMXP1 SxS media player for a little more. The allows the monitor to playback and output 4K or 2K footage shot with any current or future Sony camera that uses SxS+ or SxS cards. An excellent feature if you are using an F55 or F5. (note: it will not playback 4K RAW footage recorded with the AX5 recorder).

The PVM-X300 makes an excellent monitor for field production or for an editor. It is a true production monitor that works with most 4K signals on the market. It's only real drawback is price, at $17,500 it costs more than many 4K cameras, but if it’s in your budget you can't really go wrong with it.
