The New Fujifilm F800EXR Digital Camera: Long 20x Zoom with Wireless Image Transfer

Share

The new Fujifilm FinePix F800EXR is a compact point-and-shoot camera featuring a 16 megapixel 1/2” EXR-CMOS imaging sensor and long-reach 20x zoom lens. Its wireless capabilities allow you to share your images instantly through the use of smartphone and tablet apps and post them online wherever you go. Additionally, this camera gives you the ability to capture still images or HD videos in a variety of conditions, due to its low-light sensitivity to ISO 12800 and image stabilization system.

Wireless Image Transfer Function

Expanding the sharing abilities of your digital camera, the F800EXR can connect wirelessly to a smartphone or tablet (either iOS or Android) to transfer images directly to social networking sites; to do so, you must install a free Fujifilm app on your smart phone or tablet. Once the app is installed, you can transfer images directly between your camera and phone or tablet without needing a Wi-Fi access point. You can preview and select which images to transfer and you can transfer up to 30 images at a time.

In addition to sharing images between your phone or tablet and your digital camera, you can also use your mobile device to geo-tag and embed locational data in your image files. With more than 1,000,000 landmarks available in the app’s database, you can easily pinpoint where your images were taken and even find other nearby landmarks, depending on your current location or the direction in which your camera is pointed.

16 Megapixel EXR-CMOS Sensor and Low Light Performance

For high resolution still images and video, the 16 megapixel 1/2” EXR-CMOS sensor provides superb image quality that carries well into difficult low-light settings. The ability to shoot at up to ISO 12800 is reinforced further by CMOS shift image stabilization, all giving you control over how to render your imagery with minimal camera blur or shake and the highest image quality possible. When working in EXR Auto mode, the camera will automatically detect subject motion and then employ stabilization to make a sharp image. If a moving subject is detected, a higher ISO is used to minimize blur. If no motion is detected, the ISO is lowered to reduce noise. In both cases, CMOS shift image stabilization is used to counteract the effects of camera shake and subject movement. You can control EXR modes further by selecting from three other options: EXR HR for the highest effective resolution; EXR DR, which combines two images to extend the dynamic range; and EXR SN, which enhances sensitivity and reduces noise for working in dim light.

In addition to speed in relation to exposures, the F800EXR also provides speed in terms of camera performance. It is able to capture up to eight full-resolution frames per second, or up to 11 fps when working at lower resolutions. Full HD movie capture is available at up to 1920 x 1080 at 30 fps, and high speed movie capture is possible at speeds up to 320 fps. Focus can also be acquired in as little as 0.16 second. Tracking Autofocus is able to track moving subjects and maintain sharp focus while moving or panning.

Fujinon 20x Optical Zoom Lens with Intelligent Digital Zoom

An incredibly long lens is incorporated into the design of this camera and it benefits from the image stabilization technology. Featuring a 35mm equivalent focal length of 25-500mm, this f/3.5-5.3 lens effectively covers most usable focal lengths for an impressive breadth of situations. In addition to its long reach, the lens also features macro capabilities, which allow you to photograph subjects from distances as little as 2" (5 cm) away. Beyond the 20x optical zoom, 2x intelligent digital zoom is also available, thus extending the zoom to 40x when working in EXR Auto mode.

Creative Shooting Modes

For even greater creative possibilities, the F800EXR has implemented several features to help you break out of your usual methodologies. Six new photographic filters are built in, including Toy Camera, Miniature, Pop Color, High Key, Partial Color and Dynamic Tone. An enhanced Motion Panorama mode is also available, allowing you to capture up to 360° seamless images in either horizontal or vertical orientation. 3D imaging capabilities are available in the MPO file format, which records two separate exposures and overlays them in order to create a convincing image when played back on a 3D viewing device. The camera also has the ability to simulate some of Fujifilm’s popular film types by working in Standard/Provia, Vivid/Velvia or Soft/Astia modes.

The built-in flash also received attention in the form of an intelligent working mode: when working with subjects within the flash range of about 12’ (3.7 m) the camera can automatically balance ambient exposure with the flash exposure, reducing the gross overexposure caused by flash fall-off.

The Fujifilm F800EXR is a capable camera offering convenient wireless functionality paired with a high resolution image sensor and unusually long zoom lens. This camera is an ideal travel companion due to its ability to record location information directly from your smartphone or tablet, as well as the range of features that make it suitable for photographing in almost any situation.
