New 64-bit MOTU Digital Performer 8 Software for Mac and PC

Share

Digital Performer 8 from MOTU is a comprehensive software application that enables you to create elaborate multi-track recordings, mixes and sound design for moving images. There are a number of standout features in the new version, such as support for 64- or 32-bit operation, Mac and PC compatibility, a new HD-capable video engine, 17 new included effects plug-ins and much more.

DP8 features 64-bit operation, so if you’re using a 64-bit operating system, such as Windows 7 or Snow Leopard, DP8 will take full advantage of all of your computer’s memory. This enables you to utilize demanding plug-ins and virtual instruments more smoothly, and creates a more optimized overall user experience.

Cross-platform compatibility is something entirely new for Digital Performer, which has deep Macintosh roots that extend as far back as 1984. Using DP8 on either OS X or Windows will be nearly identical, making it easy to switch between the two. The arrival of DP8 is occurring very close to the launch of Windows 8, and MOTU is careful to point out that they are bringing Digital Performer’s award-winning design and features to “Windows 7 and beyond.” Presently, DP8 for Windows 7 has not been officially released; however, it will soon be made available to all licensed owners.

The video engine in DP8 has been completely re-engineered. Managing the movie window is incredibly easy. Once you load a video file, you can double-click on its thumbnail and a movie window will pop out. You can then move the window over to a second monitor and expand it to full screen. This may seem like simple stuff, but that’s the beauty. It’s easy to use. You can also output the movie window to an external HDMI or SDI video monitor by using a separately available MOTU Express or HDX-SDI video interface.

Past versions of Digital Performer already included a formidable set of plug-ins and virtual instruments, and DP8 has added 17 more, upping the grand total of included tools to 84. Among the new additions are Dynamic Equalizer, Precision Delay, Spatial Maximizer, De-Esser, Subkick kick drum enhancer, Springamabob spring reverb effect, Ensemble Chorus and an assortment of guitar amp, cabinet and room emulations.

There are many more improvements and additions that make this version upgrade substantial. You can customize the look of the program with the 15 new themes that don’t just change the colors used in the GUI, but introduce completely different-looking faders, knobs and meters. A new Punch Guard tool records an additional four seconds before, and a full second after you punch in and out of a recording. This way, if you punched too early or late, you can easily correct it after the take. DP8 is available and shipping now.

don't be fooled by MOTU bragging about 64 bit compatibility. yes it runs 64 but if
you have ANYTHING running in 32 DP8 will not recognize it. there is no integrated
bridge and MOTU planned it that way. amazing disrespect to users who work with
VI and plugins in both format.
