The New MASCHINE and MASCHINE MIKRO from Native Instruments

Share

Native Instruments has just announced new versions of the MASCHINE and MASCHINE MIKRO hardware and software based groove sequencing instruments. They enable you to create digital music with an intuitive, hands-on workflow. The most notable upgrade on the MK2 models are the multi-colored backlit pads. Various colors can be assigned to sounds, patterns, groups and scenes, so for example, you can assign a specific color to all of your kick drums, creating a more fluid interaction between player and instrument. The pads on the original MASCHINE and MASCHINE MIKRO only glowed with a single orange hue. While this succeeded in looking really cool, the limitation of only having a single color severely capped the amount of information that could be shared between user and system. The new multi-colored pads greatly increase the amount of visual feedback and improve the already highly regarded workflow of these products. The new pads also offer improved touch sensitivity over the previous generation.

There are a number of updates that are available on both the new MASCHINE and MASCHINE MIKRO. Both models are available in either black or white. A new Host Transport Control capability enables you to use your MASCHINE to control the transport in your DAW. New software updates in MASCHINE 1.8 add time stretching and pitch-shifting capabilities, and three new effects: Transient Master, Tape and Tube Saturator, as well as numerous workflow improvements throughout the system. Plus, a full version of Native Instruments’ popular MASSIVE software synthesizer is now included with purchase. I'm happy to report that the software update to 1.8 is free for all MASCHINE owners, MASSIVE included. Both versions of MASCHINE still come with a comprehensive sound library with more than 6GB of samples, and KOMPLETE ELEMENTS, which consists of more than 1,000 synthesizer sounds.

The full-sized MASCHINE features several hardware updates that aren’t available on the MIKRO. The Volume, Tempo and Swing knobs have been replaced with a master push encoder. Volume, Tempo and Swing now exist as backlit buttons to the left of the master encoder. Its dual displays have been improved and feature even higher contrast. There are now a total of 47 click-buttons on the MASCHINE, several more than the previous version. You can also trick out your new MASCHINE by purchasing separately available magnetic faceplate and knob kits in various colors. An optional dedicated stand will be available, which enables you to firmly mount your MASCHINE to a snare drum stand.

The new Native Instruments MASCHINE and MASCHINE MIKRO are expected to be available in early October, 2012.
