iZotope Announces the RX 5 Audio Editor

Innovative audio technology company iZotope, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has just announced two new versions of its RX platform noise-reduction software, in the form of the RX 5 Audio Editor and the professional-level RX 5 Advanced Audio Editor. Featuring a healthy assortment of new features to better equip engineers and editors to repair, enhance, and restore problematic production audio, RX5 is certain to be a well-received update.

RX 5’s new Instant Process tool lets editors “paint out” unwanted sonic elements directly on the spectral display with a single mouse gesture. The new Module Chain allows users to define a custom chain of processing, such as De-click, De-noise, De-reverb, EQ Match, Leveler, Normalize, and then save that chain as a preset so that multiple processes can be recalled and applied in a single click. This allows you to be more efficient in tackling pesky, repetitive tasks.

For even faster workflows between Pro Tools and RX 5 stand-alone application, the RX Connect feature has been enhanced to support individual Pro Tools clips and crossfades, so that processed audio returns “in place” to the Pro Tools timeline, maintaining complete editing control.

Exclusive to RX 5 Advanced, a new De-plosive module has been developed to improve the quality of your dialogue by reducing pops and mic bumps that can occur during a vocal recording. In addition, the Leveler module has been enhanced with breath and sibilance detection for increased accuracy when leveling the volume of vocals, while keeping breath and sibilance sounds lower in the mix. Likewise, new enhancements for the Ambience Match module improve accuracy when creating noise profiles for matching background noise to mask edit points. Also, Ambience Match is now available in the Avid AudioSuite for making consistent ambience beds under constructed sentences and ADR lines directly from within Pro Tools and Media Composer.

Both RX 5 Audio Editor and RX 5 Advanced Audio Editor can be used as a stand-alone audio editor, as a stand-alone audio editor connected to your host, or as a plug-in. Supported plug-in formats include AU, VST, VST 3, AAX, RTAS, and AudioSuite.
