NAMM 2015: Focusrite Audio Interfaces Get Thunderbolt with the Clarett Line
The name of the game is Thunderbolt for Focusrite at this year’s NAMM, and the company has announced a brand-new range of audio interfaces, featuring Thunderbolt connectivity alongside the quality preamps and digital I/O we have come to expect from this manufacturer. All of the interfaces in the red-faced Clarett line (not to be confused with their flagship Red line) feature the same exact conversion, so regardless of whether your needs are met by the dual-mic-pre Clarett2Pre or the rack-mountable Clarett8PreX, you will get the same quality digital input and output, with an impressive latency of less than 1 ms. Each is capable of resolution up to 24-bit/192 kHz, as well.
As Focusrite is known for, each box provides considerable digital I/O, in addition to the available analog inputs, allowing you to increase your connectivity through ADAT. You also get five-pin DIN MIDI connectivity, allowing each model to double as a MIDI interface. Every model boasts newly designed preamps based heavily on the classic Focusrite ISA line, with custom pots providing near-linear gain. Models announced include the 10-in/4-out Clarett2Pre, the 18-in/8-out Clarett4Pre, the 18-in/20-out Clarett8Pre, and the flagship 26-in/28-out Clarett8PreX. Please note, the I/O counts include digital connectivity.
