NAMM 2015: Manley FORCE 4-Channel Vacuum Tube Microphone Preamp
This year’s NAMM see’s high-end giant Manley continue its recent trend of bringing the company’s highly lusted-after equipment down to price points that project and home studios can realistically dream about. Last year, Manley unveiled its CORE channel strip, to much fanfare. This year, the manufacturer has unwrapped FORCE, a 4-channel vacuum tube microphone preamp. Sharing the same design as the preamp section of the CORE channel strip, FORCE has a straightforward design that is all about high-voltage performance for huge headroom.
Each of its four channels has a selectable hi-pass filter at 120 Hz, a Hi or Low switch for changing between 40 to 60 dB of gain, phase switch, and 48V phantom power. Additionally, every channel has a front-panel 1/4" input and can function as a DI. Your mic signals first hit the company’s renowned IRON input transformers, then a 12AX7 tube amplifying stage. Like all Manley products, the FORCE is manufactured in the USA.
