Unveiled: Astell&Kern AK Jr Portable Audio Player

New to B&H, the Astell&Kern AK Jr is a high-resolution portable audio player and USB-DAC with support for Mastering Quality Sound (MSQ). Budget-minded audiophiles will rejoice at the price tag, which offers a comparable level of audio quality found in recording studios and mastering facilities at a price that’s nearly half that of the previously released, entry-level model, the AK100 II.

The Astell&Kern AK Jr features a single Wolfson WM8740 DAC converter, which is capable of PCM playback resolutions of up to 24-bit 192 kHz. Additionally, the AK Jr offers playback of single-layer DSD (converted to PCM) high-resolution audio, as well as many popular lossless and lossy audio formats. The 3.1" LCD touchscreen provides plenty of space to view music info, album covers, and music playback options, such as Bluetooth settings and EQ.  The unbalanced 1/8" / 3.5mm jack has an output of 2 ohms, which can drive a wide range of headphones and in-ear-monitors without the need for an additional headphone amplifier. The AK Jr features 64GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB cards for a total of 128GB of music storage. Like all of the Astell&Kern players, the AK Jr can be used as a USB-DAC, allowing the owner to connect the player to their computer to bypass their internal sound card and obtain high-resolution sound from their PC or Mac desktop or laptop.
