Audioengine has been making classy-sounding, décor-pleasing speakers for use with a computer and other audio components since 2005. This month a new model arrives in three different cabinet finishes that even an audiophile could love.

The Audioengine 5+ (A5+) active speakers take the company’s flagship Audioengine 5 Bookshelf Speakers even farther down the techno road. The A5+ has a built-in power amplifier, remote control, improved thermal management, RCA and mini-jack (3.5mm) audio inputs, front-panel volume control, a USB power charger port on the rear panel (relocated from the top of the Audioengine 5), a variable preamp audio output and gold-plated connectors. The speakers operate at 150 watts peak power. They’re equipped with protection circuitry and selectable operating voltage. The magnetically-shielded speakers contain custom 5" Kevlar woofers and 0.8" silk tweeters. The A5+ features full size five-way speaker binding posts. The advance tuned wooden cabinets with rear-ported waveguide incorporates stand-mount ¼” threaded inserts and isolation pads. Cables are included.

The A5+ speakers are expected in October in bamboo, black or white. They’re compatible with Audioengine’s wireless audio adapters.
