Blackmagic Design Announces New Cameras: ATEM 4K and More
Blackmagic Design announced two new digital cinema cameras at NAB 2013, the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. These new models will join the current Blackmagic Cinema Camera, which was itself announced last year at NAB 2012. The Production Camera 4K will be the first of Blackmagic Design’s new Ultra HD product line, which will utilize 6G-SDI technology for transmitting a 4K signal over a single SDI cable.
The Blackmagic Production Camera 4K will have an EF-compatible lens mount and will retain the same chassis—and thus, the same size and shape of its EF mount predecessor. More importantly, the new camera will feature a larger, Super35mm size sensor with global shutter and—of course—4K recording in compressed CinemaDNG RAW. Much like the original Blackmagic Cinema Camera, the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K offers 12 stops of dynamic range, touch-screen metadata entry, a built-in SSD recorder, Thunderbolt connectivity and the option to record 1080HD in Apple ProRes 422 (HQ). A full software license for DaVinci Resolve and UltraScope are also included.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera is the smallest (5 x 2.6 x 1.5”) and lightest (12.5 oz) of the Blackmagic cameras. However, despite its size, the Pocket Cinema Camera offers HD image quality that promises to match that of its larger brethren. The notable specs include a Super 16mm-sized image sensor, an active Micro Four Thirds lens mount, 13 stops of dynamic range, lossless CinemaDNG RAW and Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) recording, an SD memory card slot and a Nikon EL-EN20 compatible battery.
ATEM 4K Switcher, DeckLink and More
Blackmagic Design has also announced the ATEM Production Studio 4K, the ATEM Studio Converter and the ATEM Camera Converter. The ATEM Production Studio 4K features four 6G-SDI inputs for up to four 4K sources. The ATEM Studio Converter allows users to connect up to four ATEM Camera Converters with a range of up to 28 miles via optical fiber cables. Other new Blackmagic Design products include the DeckLink Mini Monitor and Mini Recorder, the Blackmagic MultiDock, the SmartScope Duo and the Blackmagic Audio Monitor.
