Do You Need 21 Megapixels?

You've probably heard of the megapixel wars—the race between companies to cram more megapixels onto their sensors. The 5D Mk II, for example, has 21MP. With many of the entry- and mid-level DSLRs starting to creep into that area, users should consider whether or not they really need that many megapixels. To demonstrate what can be done with 21MP, we'll take as an example something I shot years ago.

A Cast of Hundreds Is Ready for Its Close-up

Daniel Zana knows about working with stiffs. During the day he directs and edits (and occasionally appears in) B&H Online Videos where he makes inanimate objects mug for the camera. Over the last four years he's also made his own movie, a documentary about collectible toys inspired by cartoons, sci-fi films and comic books.

Windows 7 users expecting to find Movie Maker on their computers as they had with Windows XP have been in for a rude disappointment—until today. The Mother of All Woodpeckers

If you’re anywhere near 2nd Avenue and 2nd Street today, you should stop by for the premier of ‘Ghost Birds’, a documentary making its debut at the ‘Birds at Anthology Film Archives’ (Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Ave @ 2nd St.). This film is about the fabled Ivory-billed Woodpecker, a rather large and possibly extinct woodpecker that was supposedly sighted in the swamps of Brinkley, Arkansas.

The Adventures of Audio Post for Film

Part One

Early in 2008, a friend sent me an email with a link to a YouTube video. The video was a preview of a movie he was producing/directing called "Overnite Shift". I was immediately intrigued by the excellent look of this no-budget movie, and something about the characters piqued my interest. I did however have reservations concerning the audio, which to my ears was problematic. On getting in touch with him, he informed me that most of the film had already been shot, but that he was having issues with the sound person delivering on his commitments. The director and I had previously worked together, so he asked me if I wanted to become involved in the project.
