Holiday 2012: Gifts for Filmmakers

Curiously, it seems that even the most ardent champions of the digital revolution cannot bear the thought of calling themselves “videomakers.” Whatever the case, let us forget the technology war for a moment and take a look at some of the industry’s secondary tools. These relatively ageless tools should appeal to anyone with an interest in the art of filmmaking.

Hands-On Review: Sekonic Litemaster Pro L-478DR

The Sekonic Litemaster Pro L-478DR light meter is the first meter available that features a color touch screen interface for taking light readings, navigating menus and controlling personal profiling options. This meter allows you to record light readings for still, flash and cine applications, and even lets you control which metering methods readily appear to best suit your own image-gathering workflow.

New Sekonic Litemaster Pro L-478D and L-478DR Light Meters

The Sekonic L-478 series is a highly unique and innovative light meter that offers the first ever color touch-screen interface to facilitate still and cine incident light as well as flash metering capabilities. This visual interface lends itself to a more intuitive workflow through the ability to adapt the meter to your own workflow and needs.

Light Meters

Light meters work by measuring the ambient or reflected light levels within the area you plan on photographing. Using medium gray, or 18% gray as a reference point, the meter takes this information and converts it to a combination of shutter speeds and lens-aperture openings.
