The Sony Cybershot DDSC-TX7 sports a Carl Zeiss 4x  zoom lens. The combination of this classic Zeiss lens and the high-tech processing gives you stunning photographs. The camera might be ultra slim, but the 10.2-Megapixel Exmor R CMOS chip will allow you to make big prints.

Hands-on Review

For the past few weeks I have been shooting with the Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras with both of the available lenses for the system, the 16mm f/2.8 and the 18-55 kit zoom. I have to say that the first week with the cameras were a bit hit and miss.

Taking the design concept of an ultra-compact mirror-less/finder-less digicam advanced by the many Four Thirds (4/3)-format cameras currently on the market, Sony has taken the concept a step further by incorporating a Sony 14.2MP APS-C HD Exmor CMOS sensor (1.5x), which features 58% more surface area than a 4/3-format imaging sensor, and about 13 times the surface area of most point-and-shoot imaging sensors. And since sensor size is a major factor when it comes to resolving power, Sony’s NEX-series cameras should prove to be a significant upgrade in terms of sharpness and dynamic range compared to comparable sub-compact offerings.

In my parent's house are boxes of family photos stored in closets, cupboards, and desks. The pictures are loose, in albums, and some still in the sleeves they came back from the photomat in. From time to time when I still lived at home I'd pull the boxes out and sort through all the memories of my childhood, and from the years before I was born: photos of my parent's when they were dating, their childhoods, their parents and their childhoods. A visual family history. Some might call this clutter - but I prefer to think of these boxes as tangible memories.

If you use Sony MDR-7506, V6, or Audio Technica M-30 headphones, then we have some very good news! The new Pearstone Deluxe Earpads are now available, and they do nothing short of making your current headphones vastly better than they already were. They’re called “deluxe” because they have soft velour pads and a smoother foam-backed surface that covers the headphone driver. The result is a simple upgrade that makes your headphones far more comfortable.

Sony's decision to stop making 3.5-inch disks caused me to rethink the need not to stock up but buy a USB-attached floppy drive to transfer files from hundreds of diskettes closeted away. It's been at least two computers since I owned one that could accept them. Even B&H has discontinued sales of a category that once defined removable memory. Remember when picking up a 10-pack was as natural as bringing home a six-pack?

Buying Guide

A professional photographer is someone who can take a photograph that's technically and aesthetically right on the money with even the most basic of imaging tools, though few, if any, would bet their reputations on entry-level cameras on a regular basis. That's because as feature-packed as under-$500 cameras are, they're simply not up to taking the pounding pro-quality DSLRs are subjected to on a daily basis. But ruggedness is only part of the equation when it comes to the top guns of DSLR cameras.

Buying Guide

Not long ago, point-and-shoot cameras had zoom lenses that seldom went beyond the optical range of a 35-105mm lens on a conventional 35mm camera. Not so anymore. Thanks to numerous advancements in optical technologies, digicams now feature 8x to 14x zooms that despite their 20-something to 200-300mm-plus focal ranges, still slip easily into your pocket. In addition to HD video, some perform some pretty neat tricks.
