The Crucial M550 is available in several different form factors.

While it's easy to say something like "20 times faster" or "loads instantly," nothing beats actual numbers. The Crucial M550 provides a true 550MB/s sequential read speed across all file types. What does that mean? It means Crucial treats all files the same, regardless of whether they're compressed or not.

Higher performance doesn't necessarily mean it requires more power. In fact, the Crucial M550 actually uses less power and runs your system longer too. Based on published specs, a common laptop hard drive uses approximately 2.5 watts of power on an average workload. The Crucial M550 runs at a fraction of that, clocking in at 0.15 watt. This means the Crucial M550 not only runs faster, but is more energy efficient than a traditional mechanical hard drive.

Available in the traditional 2.5" (7mm) form factor, the Crucial M550 comes in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities. As mentioned before, all versions of the Crucial M550 provide a 550MB/s sequential read speed. The 128GB version has a 350MB/s sequential write speed. The 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB can push the sequential write speed to 500MB/s.

If you require a smaller form factor, the Crucial M550 is available in a mSATA form factor. With storage capacities of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, the Crucial M550 mSATA SSD also provides a true 550 MB/s sequential read speed. The 128GB version has a 350 MB/s sequential write speed while the 256GB and 512GB versions have a 500 MB/s sequential write speed.

If you're really looking for the next generation solid-state drive, the Crucial M550 also utilizes the M.2 Type 2280 form factor. Built around a smaller connector, the Crucial M550 provides 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB storage capacities in a much smaller form factor. Like its big brothers, the Crucial M550 also provides a true 550MB/s sequential read speed. Like its mSATA counterpart, the 128GB version provides a 350 MB/s sequential write speed while the 256GB and 512GB versions can push it to a 500MB/s sequential write speed.
