Distinguished by its unobtrusiveness, and pairing tradition with contemporary imaging capabilities, the new Leica M-P is a full-frame digital rangefinder camera reminiscent of past MP rangefinder film cameras. Updated from the previous M camera, this new model features an enhanced 2GB buffer to permit continuous 3 fps shooting for up to 24 frames, a sapphire-glass-covered 3.0" 920k-dot LCD monitor, and manual image field selection. Additionally, its minimal design sees the removal of the traditional red dot and front-facing “M” in favor of a classic engraved Leica script on the brass top plate.
Carried over from its predecessor, the M-P features a MAX 24MP CMOS sensor and Maestro image processor to produce clean, clear photos and full HD 1080p movies with minimal noise and sensitivity, to ISO 6400. Maintaining Leica's preference for a rangefinder design, the 0.68x-magnification optical viewfinder incorporates a coupled rangefinder mechanism, with automatic parallax correction, that enables split and superimposed manual focusing. If one chooses to work with live view, focus peaking and 10x magnification tools can be used to ensure critical focus. The M-P features a rugged all-metal body construction that is accentuated by rubber seals to offer weather and dust resistance.
