Dell’s new Inspiron R laptops are coming… to B&H, that is. There’s certainly no shortage of common-looking computers in this world, so Dell is trying to change the situation. Dell’s new Inspiron R laptops have a switchable lid design in which the standard black lid can be removed and the owner can snap on a snazzier lid that smacks of individuality. The replacement lids are optional. There are numerous designs and colors to choose from, so there’s no reason why your computer has to look exactly the same as anyone else’s. Available in 14-, 15- and 17-inch sizes, with hardware configurations ranging from powerful to super powerful, there’s surely a model that will meet your needs exactly.
Note that all of the Inspiron laptops feature an Intel HD Graphics 3000 accelerator that lends support to Intel WiDi, which lets you transmit HD video wirelessly to your HDTV. If you’re interested, you’ll have to purchase Netgear’s Push2TV Adapter separately in order to make WiDi work.
The entry point to Dell’s R-series laptops is the Inspiron 14R, a 14-inch widescreen model powered by a 2.1 GHz Intel Core i3 processor and 4GB of memory. A relatively gigantic 640GB hard drive provides ample storage space. Of course, all the other bells and whistles are there as well, including Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi, a DVD burner, a webcam, Ethernet and more. If you like the 14-inch size but want more power, the Inspiron 14R can be had with a 2.3 GHz Core i5 processor and 6GB of memory.
Next we step up to a 15.6-inch model, the Inspiron 15R, which has a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Like the 14R, the 15R also has a switchable lid design. The base model 15R is powered by a 2.1 GHz Intel Core i3 processor and 4GB of memory with a 500GB hard drive. The step-up model 15R is powered by a 2.3 GHz Core i5 processor and 6GB of memory, along with a 640GB hard drive.
Regardless of the processor type, all Inspiron 15Rs have a pretty impressive feature set. They all include an 8X dual layer DVD burner, an 8-in-1 media card reader, 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a 1MP webcam, SRS Premium Sound and Intel HD Graphics 3000. Ports on the R15 include one USB 2.0, two USB 3.0, one HDMI, one VGA and one combo E-SATA/USB 2.0 port with PowerShare, which lets you charge devices even when the laptop is turned off. Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) is the installed operating system.
Power users and everyday users that simply like big screens are not being overlooked. Dell’s Inspiron 17R is built around a luxurious 17.3-inch display with a native resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels. The R17 also features Intel HD Graphics 3000, which supports WiDi. The base model 17R is powered by a 2.1 GHz Core i3 processor and 4GB of memory with a 500GB hard drive. The step-up model 17R is powered by a 2.3 GHz Core i5 processor and 6GB of memory, along with a 640GB hard drive.
All 17R laptops include an 8X DVD burner, an 8-in-1 media card reader, 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a 1MP webcam and SRS Premium Sound.
